I just ran into a goup of Albatross DVs on 02 APR 1917. Seefrosta 1 I think. I didn't think the DV came out till May.

Definitely not either of the Seafrostas. I also checked the MFJ's.

What were the markings?

I don;t remember the markings. I had aircraft labels on which ID'd them as Albatross DV. There were five of them and I was a alone. I was quite busy and didn't have the presence of mind to take a screenshot.

If this sort of thing happens please grab the campaign mission xml from
missions\historical folder please then we may ask for it to check - thanks.

Did you drop any?
Did they take a swat you?
Bugger if I'm going to sit around wearing my funny hat blasting away with a history book on me lap wondering if there's been a temporal displacement in the vicinity of Amiens!

I say try to KILL EM ALL! Unless of course I'm flying Central Powers Air today..

Well, Capn Rick
What plane should he kill them with? Early 1917 - there was no Allied plane except the SPAD VII (I think) that could have killed a flight of Albatros D V's, I'd say. Maybe, the two-guns Tripe (don't know, when it came).

Olham54,

56 Squadron flying SE5's (not modelled in BHAH because only 18 were built, the main difference between the SE5 and the SE5a being the latter didn't have clipped wings) flew from London Colney to Vert Galland (sorry not sure of the spelling) on the 7th April 1917 and started operations a couple of days later.

Although I am not sure how long it took for other squardrons to be equipped with this fantastic fighter.

Thanks

Hi Guys,
The Nie17bis was the first British two-gun fighter, the first example arriving at Naval 6 on 1 February '17. This was and remained the only fighting unit so equipped, until it re-equipped with Clerget Camels beginning on 8 June.
As Rugbyfan noted, 56 RFC introduced the SE5 to the Western Front, 13 leaving London Colney at 11:50 on the morning of 7 April. They lunched at St Omer before moving on to their drome at Vert-Galant. The SE5 (150hp Hisso) was used first by 56, then 60, before being passed on to other units as used or rebuilt machines. There were two orders, both from the Royal Aircraft Factory, with 74 built, plus three prototypes.
The first SE5a's reached the Front with 56 Squadron on 13 July.
Cheers,

Is it in BHaH - cause that would definitely be a plane I'd choose then in early 1917, as an Allied pilot.

Thanks for all the infos. Olham

Well, sort of.
It's a sheep in wolf's clothing - a Noop 17 - Vickers, masquerading as a Bis, which had a Vickers on the hood and a Lewis on the roof. We may get the real thing in place of the ersatz, down the road.

Right, Ted, but not a stretch to far.
Here is a comparison and you can see how similar they were in most ways. For Phase III we wanted to include as much as possible, but it wasn't possible to alter all the 3d models for all the changes; I think this BIS skin was a good compromise until we have time to incorporate the additional Vickers, along with the proper Foster mount vrs stationary mount Lewis wing mount MG.

I did all the Nieuport skins in OFF and for the N17 Bis version I took a N17 with Lewis gun and added the fuselage stringers with shadowing to suggest its more round body. That, besides the cowl mounted Vickers is one of the most noticeable differences. Here are a couple of screen shots of two Brit Noops, one of a N17BIS, the other of a Vickers mounted N17.

Great, RABU
These drawings and your marvellous pictures show the beauty and fragillity of this little plane. Your pics are almost like air combat paintings - amazing!

Thanks, Olham. I really enjoyed creating the Nieuport skins, I love the plane characteristics and I particularly like the French, Italian and Belgium markings, but the Brits and others are great too.
