Reading the DASH 7 thread, I had the notion that not all of you are aware that there's another 'freeware gem' to be explored:
It's Pete & Sid's Viva Scenery series!

FS2004 Pete & Sid's Viva Scenery Volume 2. A collection of scenery enhancements for smaller airports, mostly in British Columbia, Alaska and northern Canada. It was not the intention to do anything fancy or particularly accurate, but simply to make the default scenery less boring and more fun. There are 95 airports in Volume 2. Also includes some general aviation AI traffic for many of these airports. The scenery for any individual airport may be removed without affecting the other airports. Requires PSS_S0.ZIP plus other common scenery object libraries. By Peter Ham and Sidney Schwartz.

Thanks to Pete & Sid for providing this fine set!

Wow, how nice! Thanks! Pete & I released 270 enhanced airports in three volumes, and I think this is the first time I've seen them mentioned on a flightsim forum. My life is now complete. :jump:

naw Sidney.. "really complete" would be a visit to the real thing:icon_lol:

used to be hard to come by photos of Tal Narrows as it's a private strip for Plummers Lodge but here's a link to their website. Click on the "view the..." link, save the file and click on it. It's a panoramic photo that shows (poorly) the buildings. Nothing really on the strip, which, if you look at some of the other pics, will handle a 737.

Plummers also had a DC-3 to shuttle pax from Yellowknife to the lodge.

Hey All,

I did not know about these airports! Now I have to install them. I'm thinking do a bunch more Alberta and a bunch of Saskatchewan airports and the whole NW will tie in beautifully with the Montana unleashed series!

Hi Ed that sounds like a wonderful idea. This part of N.America has bounds of beauty and a Bush pilots dream.

naw Sidney.. "really complete" would be a visit to the real thing:icon_lol:

Right on. I wouldn't mind my own DC-3, either.

Thanks for the link to the Plummer's site...interesting stuff. What a great career choice. :ernae:
The "Montana Unleashed" series is great. Lauren does wonderful scenery work.

For anyone interested in installing the Pete & Sid's sceneries, please make sure to download the upated texture sets I made to eliminate the "blurries" problem that some people were having. The file names on Avsim are ss_textures_update_1.zip, ss_textures_update_2.zip and ss_textures_update_3.zip.

Many thanks to Markus for posting this excellent topic, and sincere thanks to Pet and Sid for creating this marvelous package!

Great thread this one, thanks. Also, a great big thanks to Mr. Sidney Schwartz for all of his outstanding work and much used scenery! You are the best Sir. Use your work daily - again, thanks.

Ed :applause:

Very nice!! :icon29:

My dad flew up there in the 60s... flew just north of there so he could say he made it to the Arctic Circle... he was very proud of that.

Thanks for the memories :wavey:

Thanks, all! For me the most enjoyable part of making scenery objects and scenery is when other folks appreciate and enjoy them. I've been an FS user for more than 20 years, and one of the main things that's kept it fun for so long is the wonderful stuff that the FS community creates and shares. I'm glad to have finally learned to do something useful and to be able to give something back. :ernae:

I've got Sid to thank :ernae:

He encouraged and taught me how to use EZ Scenery.

We swap ideas and what started as a small project quickly got out of hand :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Now I'm addicted ...... and thoroughly enjoying creating something for others to enjoy.

Pete.

Hi Pete, can you tell me if any airports on the BC side conflict with any Fs9 BC payware scenery by chance?

None of the sceneries released in the 'Pete & Sid's Sceneries' are in the Van+ , Misty & Tongass Fjords payware scenery areas.

Pete.

Cheer's thank you:ernae:. And now i just cant get a break, Im trying to find Ft. Good Hope NWT lol.

There are all sorts of reasons why someone might not want to install a particular airport from our collection, so we designed it so that individual airports are easily installed or removed.

Looks like alot of fun. I'll have to download these and give em a whirl.

@ Pete & Sid:

Sad enough that it took so long for you to receive any adequate feedback for your awesome work!
The more I'm pleased to have my little share in raising the reward you deserve.

Thank you! :medals: :applause:

Cheers,
Markus.
