That is just really cool!

Yep NZ is the home of the restored Rata - the whole project was started by Sir Tim Wallis of the Alpine Fighter Collection in conjunction with a bunch of Russians - he ended up restoring 6 Ratas (they had 5 or 6 all flying in formation at one of the Wanaka Air shows) and they all flew in NZ before most of them were exported - I believe there is only one Rata left here in NZ plus one Polikarpov I-153 biplane (of which three were restored here)..

Heres the link to the Alpine Fighter Collection photo album with plenty of good shots

Plus a pic of the Rata taken at Wanaka 2006...(the olny one flying at that show)..this would be a good easy one to get a repaint of..a sliver one would be nice too..sorry I dont have any other shots of it

Hi Crash.

Really shows up the lines and details.
And it is just plain beautiful.

NZ Polikarpovs

Hi All -There were also a bunch of I-15 Biplanes made from original specs,by some of the original factory workers , I believe. I'm pretty sure I' ve got some photos I could dig up and scan from around 2004.

Well crash you sure have an audience!
Naki's link has a great little video with that SOUND - it's quite agricultural...

Here's a double-decker I took at Masterton a couple of years ago, perhaps you could stretch to one of these sometime? :kilroy:
There's something about a biplane with retracting feets...

Those Rata's sure have a very unique sound about them. I think I am going to have to fire up the wav editors and see how closely I can get Lawdog's F2A sound pack to sound like the Ratas in the video.
