Alpha North American XB-70 Paint Kit in 2048 and repaints

Jafo

SOH-CM-2024
I have just uploaded my Kit in 2048x2048 format for the Alphasim/Virtavia Valkyrie to SOH.

XB-70 Valkyrie High Resolution Layered Paint Kit for Alphasim's model of the North American XB-70 Valkyrie for FSX, in 2048 detail resolution. The original Aircraft release was textured in 1024. The Kit includes the main 5 layered aircraft bitmaps in PSP format [PaintShop Pro] as well as the 3 matching 2048 resolution bump-map bitmaps in DXT5 DDS. The others don't need changing. Requires Alphasim's/Virtavia's FSX native model.

I'll also upload a PSD format version for Photoshoppers...;)

A selection of my repaints will also be uploaded soonish [just need to recompile].

BTW....the next thing I'm 'playing with' is another 'X'-plane....just 67 lower than the Valkyrie...;)

The PSD version of the Kit has been uploaded too.
Same animal [though bigger file size].
Next will be the paints I've done....once recompiled and converted to DDS. On my own machine I don't worry about their size [decent computer] and just run them as 8.8.8 bitmaps...;)

I've recompiled and uploaded the first paint of the XB-70 to SOH....
The most significant one [as it still exists].

XB-70 Valkyrie cn: 620001, North American Aviation, 1962:- A High Definition repaint for Alphasim/Virtavia's model of the North American XB-70 Valkyrie for FSX, in 2048 detail resolution. Textures only, requires the Alphasim/Virtavia FSX native model.

A few minor tweaks over and above the paint kit version...the white [230.230.230] was knocked back to 90% improving fine detail.... looks less 'plastic' when there's no spec channels available.

attachment.php

This is an earlier snap...;)

Edit....also just uploaded the same animal [20001]...different paint....in NASA livery.

Just uploaded the 'other' one.... 20207 - the second prototype lost tragically in a mid-air.

There's one more 'original/real' paint to go....the trans Mach 3 'fried' version. A little more to do on that one yet.

attachment.php

One fried bird....found another pic of it....so a little closer to done...;)

I guess by the time of the SR-71 they'd worked out how to do the paint right.
Gets a bit toasty at Mach 3 ......
Here's the result now uploaded to SOH...;)

attachment.php

That's it for 'real versions'.... anything next is 'what-if's ...;)

First rule of uploading stuff is you find something else you 'should' have fixed...
Both paintkits missed the dorsal vent outlets [just behind the canards].

Images 3a and 3b ...just to the right and above the nosecone...need to be black [and white in the alpha].

Meanwhile this one's uploaded here...

99th Bomb Wing - inspired by the SR-71 [obviously a 'what-if']. One of several to upload.

One of the hardest to do....chasing lines over 5 bitmaps.....and also the most unlikely of versions.....just uploaded to SOH....;)

Puts the "Thunder" in Thunderbirds...

Wow! Thunderbirds. Can only shudder at the cost of having that flying shows, for a season or two. Can you image the altitude gained just to do a loop?
Great paints BTW, and thank you for all the efforts on a model thats been around, but still fun to fly . From Flight level 70, @ 1600 knots the FS world is a very different place...

Thanks
Bill

Of course....when you're doing a TBird there's always the more correct vintage metal.....before they went white....

No spec layers for the XB-70 means I had to 'fiddle' with MDLMat and trial and error and came up with something shiny-ish spec-wise.

Edit.....uploaded here, now ...;)

Didn't someone do a camouflage version way back?

thanks for the work you put into this. Navy version?, that's a bit really way out for me. Land on a carrier, good luck. The tail hook would have to but the size of an F-18!

I have a couple of those on the way...;)

Yes, the Navy and the TBirds ones would definitely classify as 'unlikely'...;)

A little more to do...but here it is in SEA colours..

attachment.php

Edit....probably finished....
Corrected the colours to 'exact' RGB.
Something the 69th Bomb Squadron might have ended up with....

attachment.php

Edit 2 .... removed the 'USAF' ....shouldn't have been there....not in the Camo.
