Cabin in the Sky flew out of Old Buckenham, England. On the 27 Mar 44 mission to the Pau/Pont Long Airfield in France, it was shot down by flak. The killed included the Grp Operations Officer. With his death, Maj Jimmie Stewart of movie fame became the new Grp Ops officer for the 453rd.
