If anyone has this model, was wondering if one of the loadout variations included is just the drop tanks?

Thanks-
Moses

Nope, all of the original models contained weapons and the drop tanks. At a later date Alphasim did release a "clean" model with no weapons or drop tanks.

An absolutely awesome model - it was a real treat to beta that one. There have since been quite a few lovely repaints for it - Pablo Diaz' USMC repaint for it is the stuff of repaint legend.

Enjoy!

F-4D ...... F4-D ..... Hmmmm......

Methinks F4D.

McNamara really opened a can of worms; an enduring disservice to Naval Aviation. :censored:

I pushed for that configuration it but it didn't happen. You could always alpha channel out the pylons and weapons so they don't show in FS9. They all had seperate textures. In fact as I look through my master textures I see that I made such versions as "Pylons_erase.bmp", "Bomb_erase.bmp", etc.

Nice shots! Kinda wish I would have purchased the "Skyray". I have the "Cutlass" tho and it also is an excellent bird.

Hmmm... I just pulled mine out from the hangar. I have five models, one of which is a clean configuration.

Great F4D Skyray but....!

The F4D Skyray is one of the best offerings from AS, but if you're into Navy-Types you may want to have a look their F3H Demon as well.....that's my 'fav'..and there are some wonderful repaints out there to boot... especially some 'weathered and weary' finishes that are stunning but since my FS System is 'Kaputski' I can't recall who did them. Well worth a few 'Pesos'.

Hey WarHorse,

Where did you get the clean model from? I just had a look at mine and I've only got 4 models!
Dunno. Can't remember if it came with the package or was added. Are you counting all the model folders - there is one as model plus four more labeled model.1 through model.4, for a total of five. The details listed on the Virtavia version at SimMarket indicates it comes with a clean version.

Hi,

From the original Alphasim package:
model.4 is the "clean" one

description=© AlphaSim 2006\n\nThe Douglas Skyray was on the cutting edge of aircraft design when first conceived in 1947, after winning a competition for a delta-wing Navy fighter. In 1948, Douglas Aircraft contracted to build the F4D-1, with the first flight of a production model taking place in 1954. Known as the 'ten-minute killer', the aircraft broke five world records in the time-to-altitude category and exceeded Mach 1 in level flight. In 1953, the Skyray shared honors with North America's Super Sabre in being awarded the prestigious Collier Trophy. In the late 1950s, an F4D1-equipped squadron was recognized as the top interceptor squadron in the North American Air Defense Command, an area previously dominated by Air Force aircraft. In all, Douglas produced 421 Skyrays, including two XF4D prototypes. The last of the type left the El Segundo, California, plant in December, 1958. It was designated the F-6A in 1963 and served both Marine and Navy carrier squadrons until early 1964.

That sounds about right. The clean one came out afterwards. The original question that started the thread was about a version with just wing tanks. That configuration was never made.

I only had up to model.3. Thanks to Claudius I have them all now.
Sometime ago I did some repaints which were uploaded to Avsim (not there since the hack). Two of them I wanted to do as clean aircraft and so spent ages trying to alpha out the pylons and weapons but the bomb shackles texture was tied to the nose wheel so if I acheived a clean model, part of the nose wheel was also missing! Now thanks to Moses, Warhorse and Claudius I've finally got the look I wanted a couple of years ago.:wiggle:

The nearest I think you can get to tanks only is tanks and empty pylons.
