I've persuaded Tranquil to have a go at VMFP-3 153107 in the Bicentennial markings it wore.

Before it can be released, we need a close-up view of the tail, as all pictures we have found don't show the crest at the front of the tail in any clarity.

Here she is 'in-progress' without the crest. Can anyone help?

I've tried those, thanks.
It's the item on the tail in front of the "RF" that's the problem. The images from the decal sheets just aren't clear enough - and you wouldn't want us to get it wrong, would you?

Sorry about the image above. Don't know what's happened to the original.
Here it is again:

This is what the shield logo looked like to me. Go ahead and use it if you want. The Eagle, Globe & Anchor may have originally been gold and silver but looks like it's bleached out on the plane.
Edit: I uploaded a shield with a better logo, as shown here.

Fantastic paint!

Naval RF-4Bs are always appreciated! Since we're talking about special paints, here is an idea:

VMFP-3 Special paint, where the trim is made to look like film. Clever, and very attractive, in my view. Not presuming anyone will do this - just an idea for anyone considering a different scheme on this great bird!!

Cheers,

Got any more pictures of this bird?

It's just that we're wary of unexpected badges.
We'll proceed on the basis of what can be seen applying to both sides.

It's the "eyeballs-in-the-sky" syndrome -- caused by a large lack of curry.....

Hello DH,

Yes, your push for authenticity is duly noted and appreciated (as per the original post). The "same on blind side as on visible side" texture logic makes sense to me, in the absence of any more info. I can't help you with any more curry, but will this do:

... Butter chicken ....:wiggle:

My sense of this paint, like the anniversary edition, is that it was temporary, and not well documented. Funny, because the film motif is clever as heck - surprised more photo birds, esp CAG birds, didn't try this before.

Looks good so far.... :)
