In "Fate is the Hunter", author Ernie Gann describes his early days as a co-pilot and captain with American Airlines in the late 30s on Air Mail route 21 between New York and Cleveland. The consisted of several stops and is one that I've wanted to fly in FS several times and finally got around to it this evening. Gann flew the route in DC-2s at first and later on in DC-3s. So, I hopped into the default DC-3 in a period American Airlines Flagship paint and went to it.

Starting at LaGuardia airport in NYC, I climbed out over Manhattan and headed west.....

The first stop is in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Stopping long enough to unload passengers and the all important airmail, we're soon back in the air heading north to Syracuse, New York where we'll stop for now. In real life, they continued on, but I'm taking a break until tomorrow.

Pushed on a bit farther down AM 21. We left Syracuse and headed west to Rochester. After another quick stop there, it was on to Buffalo, where I figured I'd stop again.

Yea, I know. Gann probably didn't see many Connies when he was flying AM 21...

Nice pics! I wish we've seen as much snow this winter in PA as in your screenshots - as always, Microsoft's default weather takes a slightly optimistic view of winter here in the Northeast!

It's been years since I last read 'Fate is the Hunter' - I think I need to dust it off. Fantastic book. You've inspired me to fly AM21 this evening, using the excellent payware DC-2 by the Uiver team. For those who are interested, there's an insightful website that has (among many others) the routings of the original AM21.
