Snap....I'm waiting for "The Path of Infinite Sorrow" to arrive in the post. It should make an interesting companion volume to Raymond Paull's "Retreat From Kokoda", one of the few well written military histories in my library.
An interesting play of history here. If the IJN had kept the field (won) at the Battle of the Coral Sea (and perhaps Milne Bay), the IJA would not have had to attempt the crossing of the Owen Stanly Mountains in order to capture Port Moresby. Of course that also assumes that they could have successfully landed near PM.
18 month's or so there was a move coming out about the "Kokoda Track" trailer page and all. Anyone know what came of the move? Trailer sight is gone and I haven't found any word of the move.
I believe the movie you refer to was "Kokoda", well worth a watch. It follows the exploits of two brothers in the 39th Militia Battalion up to the battle of Ioribaiwa ridge. There was also a 2 part documentary produced this year by the Australian Broadcasting Commission also called "Kokoda" which was very good too. You may still be able to watch it on abc.net.au under documentaries. I have both on DVD.
