AN/APN-4 LORAN Gauge. - Representation of the AN/APN-4 LORAN gauge found in the late 1950's on many airliners.

FS2004/FSX/P3D LORAN (LOng RAnge Navigation) gauge.

Long before GPS, a method was developed to be able to navigate on long overwater flights without the issues of weather and visibility involved with celestial navigation. LORAN was originally used during WWII to assist the Allies in bombing raids and in transport duties. It was later used by the airlines to navigate across the oceans.
