I wish President Obama all the luck in the world in leading us out our financial mess. But I don’t really expect much. You see, one of our greatest Presidents, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, tried with all his might and main to correct the effects of the Great Depression.
He started the WPA, the NRA and the CCCs. All of which were designed to put people back to work and to stimulate the economy. But in spite of FDR’s efforts, unemployment stayed at double digits until WWII came along. Let us hope that it won’t come to WWIII to lead us out current mess. But it only shows how ineffectual Government can be in straightening things out.
The banks got us in a bad way and I look to them to bail us out. Let them stop thinking about profits and look to what’s best for the economy.
