And I became a fan, just like that!

So, my husband and I have different taste in music. No big deal! He loves Jazz & Blues and I'm more of a Dance/techno & Rock girl.
Going to concerts can be quite interesting for us. Back in May of this year, I received an email from TicketMaster advertising Willie Nelson's current tour. Well.......I decided right then and there that I wanted to go see Willie Nelson in concert. Am I a country music fan? No, not really, although I do enjoy a few songs here and there. However, Willie Nelson is like an American icon for the Country Music industry.
So, without hesitation, I purchased the tickets.
Hubby's reaction: Big roll of eyes, annoyed look on his face while asking me: Willie Nelson??!! Are you serious??

Of course I was!

The concert was August 14th and that's also when I fell in love with Willie Nelson. Quite the entertainer he is! I could not believe that this 77-yr old singer could still "rock" the house as much as he did. His concert was completely sold out. He entertained us with his voice and funny anecdotes for 2 hrs, non-stop....well, wait...he did take the time to take a swig from a beer that had been offered by a fan. It was great!
Willie knows how to connect with his audience!

Yeah Willie!

Oh and the best part was when my husband told me, after the show, that this was one of the best concerts he had ever been to.

Yeah...it was!

I'm not much on the newer Country, but I'll listen to Willie Nelson anytime!

I have the same feeling about country music. I'm not much of a fan, but like the occasional tune that's not too deep south shall we say. However, I wouldn't mind seeing a Willie Nelson concert.

Well you know what they say ... Once you go country you never go back!

Willie is by far the pinnacle in entertainers ... here's the ultimate entertainer entertaining other entertainers ...

Anyhow you got me on a kick ... here's a couple more I hope you enjoy!

And Willie does great duets too, unfortunately, here's one that will never be repeated and one I think is by far one of his best duets.

Sounds like you had a good time C9G ... And Hubby too! That's a good thing!! Glad to hear it. :applause:

Hey All,

Willie!

One of the best concerts I have ever been to. Jacksonville Oregon - little ampitheatre on a hillside - open in the back - warm summer evening - on the grass - bottle (or two) of wine - Willie singing - across the valley clearly visible behind Willie - a forest fire on the edge of Medford - borate bombers dropping load after load to save houses - flames an all clearly visible - wine willie an a fire - great time!

Now CG9 I bet Willie did not do this song at the concert you went to!!

Note 1 - DO NOT CLICK PLAY UNLESS YOU ARE SECURE IN YOUR MANHOOD!

Note 2 - I believe this only applies to Texas cowboys - not Montana Cowboys like me. :bump:

Note 3 Willie and Burt Reynolds are really havin a good time with this!

Note 4 - I think one of Panther's wimmin are in this!

Enjoy!

Willie rules! I'm only an occasional dabbler with country music, but I've always loved him. He's got one of the most distinctive voices in music, and I like his attitude on a lot of other things, too. Another sort-of country musician I'm fond of is Lyle Lovett.

YES! Willie, Waylon, Freddy Fender, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and all those older country music singers are great to listen to. I can't stand the "new" country, but give me that crying in your beer stuff and I'll listen all night. Must be accompanied by beer, naturally ..... and cigarettes!

Hey All,

Besides a gay cowboy song I have to say for those who don't know Willie was one of the most prolific songwriters of all time - who wrote monster hits for other singers before he began to make it on his own.

Here is one of the biggest. It needs NO introduction.

Here is another - some of you who may have heard country around 1961 will remember this was number 1 in country and number 12 on the pop charts - the great Faron Young.

sorry about the one skip.

One of my favorite pure Willie songs about Angels flying to close to the ground..

He could do other peoples stuff as well. Here is a song called Midnight Rider by Greg Allman done by Willie.

Mickey Raphael absolutely kills on that harmonica! One of the inspirations for me playing harmonica.

Enjoy!

Well, C9G already hit the nail on the head with her saying that Willie Nelson is an American icon. And he has recorded with about every American icon singer I know, including Ray Charles, whom I might add, made country music even more popular when he recorded a country album way back when.

And there are so many Texas musicians that would have never found vinyl had it not been for Willie; Guy Clark, Robert Earl Keen, even ole Toby Keith. And not only was he a songwriter himself, but his recording of other songwriter's work put them on the map.

And that said, if you ever meet Willie (I did in Greensboro), he is as calm and modest a man as you'll ever see for all he's done. But as the song says, if you get on his bus and he pulls out the mason jar and rolls one, let it pass by! :d

Love Willie Nelson. He, along with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and countless others are the definition of what real country music is. Nowadays, Alan Jackson and George Strait are beacons of light in a country music ocean dominated by pop-star rejects like Taylor Swift.

As for my video contribution, how about the greatest band ever assembled? :jump:

I agree 100%

Willie is an American legend..

Henry...You have GREAT taste in music...I love JJ Cale & Leon Russel...

Pshaw, I put in my two pense worth, but I think it is cool how most are adding a Willie classic video song. Here's mine, written by Guy Clark and featuring the world's oldest roadie, Ben Dorsey.
