Hi, time ago I deleted that nervy opening-video+music when CFS2 starts,
but forgot how to after newinstall...Imaging it was someth. like replacing entries in CFG-file, so I set "Show movie=1" to "0" but doesn't work!
In what folder is it stored, it's not in MOVIES or UIRES :banghead: ??

Changing the config line

ShowMovie=1 to ShowMovie=0 should stop the opening movie from playing...did on my installs.

The opening movie is in the main CFS2 folder..called opening.mpg.

You have to delete the opening.mpg; ShowMovie=0 only prevents to run the transitional movies in the campaigns.

Hmmm . . .

Is there a fix for the message about being "Saved by a Submarine" which is very annoying when you get shot down over Europe . . .

Of course in the movies I suppose they could sneak a Sub down the Rhine to rescue John Wayne :icon_lol:

In the CFS2 CFG file, you need to set both ShowMovie and ShowLogo to 0.

Which leads me to this question: Is there any way to get rid off or replace the "Loading. . . please wait" screen? The available alternative splashscreens don't seem to override this screen.

You can change the outcome.dat file in the INFO folder:

change
"rescued_string.0"=You've been rescued by a submarine.
"rescued_string.1"=A submarine has rescued you.

to
"rescued_string.0"=You've been rescued by a pretty nurse.
"rescued_string.1"=your wife is looking for you.

:icon_lol:

The possibilities are endless...

This is because the Loading screen is not the splashscreen. It's a separate picture file and not included in splashscreen kits.

Although AJAX & Mercure usually include a replacement Loading screen in their screenpacks.

Sure ... easy too :applause:

In the UIRES folder locate 2 files:

scr_loadingsim.bmp & scr_loadingsim.jpg

Make a new .jpg & .bmp in the same 800 x 600 size.
Save the .bmp in 555 format.

Now yer done ... have a beer :ernae:

You do not need to change both showlogo and showmovie in your cfs2.cfg file. You also don't need to delete any files.

showlogo controls the opening movie, while showmovie controls the videos in campaigns as mentioned . Changing showlogo to 0 will stop the opening movie while leaving showmovie to 1 will still allow the campaign films to play. Change them both to zero only if you want to eleminate all videos in the game.

OBIO, that's exactly I did but doesn't work! Also there's no "opening.mpg" in CFS2-mainefolder.
I tried PC-search----not found! Where it's hidden??

Just the facts:

OBIO, that's exactly I did but doesn't work! Also there's no "opening.mpg" in CFS2-main folder.
I tried PC-search----not found! Where it's hidden??

No .. Obi is correct; the movie is not hidden ... see below:

If it is not there AND your movie still runs when you load CFS2 ... then either you have multi installs and are looking in the wrong main folder OR your copy of CFS2 is from: "The Twilight Zone" or "Outer Limits"

Personally the only thing I dislike about CFS2 are the gawd-awful cartoon screens & movies. On a full install, CFS2 is aprx. 832MB; the "Opening Movie" is about 110MB. It's the first thing I delete when creating a new install.

Simply deleting the movie is all you really need to do. This will not harm anything. CFS2.cfg will auto-reset itself to not try to show it the next time you open the sim.

For those of you that feel they must keep the movie but not let it play, then change SHOWMOVIE to "0"
0 = off 1 = on

Then there are those annoying short movies that play between missions when flying the stock campaigns. They are located in the Main folder, in "videos" - "transit" subfolders. They account for an additional 91.5MB and are also deletable with no ill effects to CFS2.

For those who might be curious:

Playing or not playing the opening movie has no effect what so ever on the time it takes to load the sim.

For those who like opening movies:

Take53084
has made some OUTSTANDING opening movies for just about every theater there is in CFS2.

I strongly recommend you check them out!

Dirtman, you're such a hoot.......:applause:

Ahh. Never thought show logo only was the key. There were a number of old threads that simply said to set showmovie to 0 (zero), which doesn't kill the opening video. So I set both showlogo and showmovie to 0, which does work, but not for the reasons I thought. Interesting.

...yeah, You guessed well! Found another CFS2-install. But also there was no opening.mpg--devil knows from where sim it's loading. :isadizzy: Following another suspiction I looked in CD #2 (needed for simstart)----
There it is! :a1310:
After replacing whith optionally file it's o.k. Shure sev. "scr'....s" are changed for new missions!

Now I'm going to add to the confusion. I have two installs - both made from the same CFS2 discs, on the same computer and installed only days apart -one for PTO and one for an Eastern Front setup. The PTO does not have an OPENING.mpg file anywhere, while the Eastern Front setup does (in the main folder). I've seached the PTO setup and it's just not there.

:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol: oh, really ?? Each sim has its own mysteries, but there are enough
addons to replace default---and not wanted--actions!
Ceep cool + :icon29:
