Another missing plane

helldiver probably knows everything there is to know about that plane. he's a pretty good source of knowledge sometimes

Yes, Mike Stone did make one, and it's a good one.

Like all of his planes, it's an excellent 3D model with an OK 2D panel and no VC. I aliased a nice PBY panel to make it look a little better from the cockpit. Some will find the absence of a VC off-putting, but if you don't mind that, the plane's a keeper.

Alas, a texture mapping glitch makes authentic repaints impossible, including the pre-WW2 Coast Guard scheme that pretty much defined the PH-1 during its service life.

I released a repaint of that livery, but the glitch meant that the yellow on the top wing has to be on the bottom surface as well as the top. It looks OK if you can avoid noticing that. I use it as AI to populate the scenery David and I made of CGAS Salem, and it looks fine there; the seadrome would seem incomplete without it.

A wartime camo scheme would be nice, but the glitch means that it wouldn't be possible to have national insignia on the upper wing without having it appear on the lower surface as well. That isn't an issue with the pre-war Coast Guard paint because pre-war Coast Guard planes didn't have national insignia.
