I'm upgrading my 7 yo rig with an AMD II Phenom X4 970 cpu and a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus fan. Now it time for the mobo. I've noticed some have onboard IEE 1394 connections while others do not. My current setup has a 1394 board plugged in. I assume if I buy a mobo without onboard 1394, then I'll need a new card. Is this correct? All the connection is used for is from my PC to the Motorola modem furnished by my cable provider.
Also, what is the difference between 1394 and 1394a? Also, IF there's an onboard 1394 is it better to use a separate dedicated card (mush like using a video card rather than onboard)? Can an onboard 1394 even be disabled in the first place?
Thanks,
Bob
