Hi all,
We have had to have one of our cats put down today.Poppy was only 9 and died of poisoning. The vets believe it was from antifreeze.Cats love the taste but it is deadly to them.
One of our other cats Angelus is also very sick with the same, but not quite so severe symptoms. We are hoping he will pull though as he was poisoned at about the same time, but he is not as bad as Poppy was.Angelus is only 7.
We live in hope.

Always sad to hear such things! Hope you at least get the second cat through!

My first cat died at around 9, too, it was a long term effect, caused by a poisoning from anti-cat-flea poison that we used to get that plague out of our apartment years before. Brings me down!

My compassion!
Alex

Buddha, I hope Angelus pulls threw ok. Did you find out where they got into the antifreeze?

We had a cat that died from antifreeze poisoning back in the 70s while we were away. Come to find out it was the neighbors just down the road. After I got thru with them they made sure there wasn't any leaking from their vehicles ever again. We lost a cat that was a hunter extraordinarie..... He was only cat I've ever seen that could kill a weasle and live to show off the kill.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Buddha....I hope your other cat comes out okay and recovers.

Earlier this month, we passed the 1 year anniversary of the passing of our 11 year old cat, Whitey. I still miss him.

Anti-freeze is a terrible way to go. They suffer a great deal after that....
Really bad stuff for dogs and cats.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope the other gets better soon!!

I'm a cat person myself, actually a Bengal breeder. I've always had tons of animals around, and it's still hard when one passes. Last month, nearly on the same day, I had a litter of bengals born and my oldest ferret passed away. I still miss him.

Buddha,

I hope your family member pulls through and I am sorry for the loss of your other. My humble condolences..

I lost Katja, an egyptian siamese, to poisoning, as well as two of our other cats. Katja was my own personal kid. We found tuna mixed with rat poisoning next door beside the fence, (other side of the wall). I wanted to take that neighbor apart....

Karma.... What goes around shall surely come around.

Truly a sad thing...I am sorry to hear this happened to your companions. I hope Angelus makes a complete recovery. Do you know how they got access to the antifreeze?

Sorry to read something like this and it is even worse when it also could have be prevent because of some ding bat not paying attention where they are dumping there chemicals. I hope the second one pulls through...Mike

sorry to hear about your loss...i hope the second cat makes it...makes me shudder at the thought of losing my 13 year old...we cuddle every night and i have to give her atleast 30 minutes everyday after lunch to lay on my chest or she howls...

Hi all,
Thanks for the messages. An update on Angelus,He is still eating which is a good sign.We are waiting to here the results of the blood tests to see how bad his kidneys have been damaged.Poppy had to be put to sleep because her kidneys had failed completely due to the poison.
Will let you know more as things happen.
Thanks again,

Angelus update,
Had a phone call from the vets 30 minutes ago to bring him in.His blood results were much worse than Poppy's.He is in some renal failure but is still passing urine. He is alos much brighter than Poppy was.Still hopeful for a good outcome. He has gone in for IV fluids to keep him hydrated and increase his urine output to flush more of the toxin out.
