Hopefully MEG hasn't done yet. I couldn't find it if it has. So, she'll be uploaded later in the weekend. Still under going some weathering.

ABDUL'S Baby is next.

Very interesting scheme, Duckie, I quite like it! Having never seen the scheme before, I had to look it up - a P-51B-5, belonging to the 52nd FG. The markings themselves are early - a bit different than the eventual all-yellow tails.

It's cool that you have the droptanks painted neutral grey. It seems that the metal 75-gal droptanks followed the same general order regarding paint, as the USAAF aircraft did. During the time that P-51B/C's were coming out of the assembly line still painted in OD/Grey, the drop tanks seem to have been painted Grey as well. When the order was given to leave aircraft bare metal, in I believe the spring of 1944, this seemed to be applied to the droptanks as well, since photos by mid-1944 illustrate that these are not to be found any longer, in way of all natural-metal examples.

Thanks, John. The scheme caught my eye too when I was searching. Haven't seen any done in this early scheme so thought I'd give it a go.

As far as the gray drop tanks, I learned a long time ago when I was a young modeler that one could never say never OR always when it comes to "war paint". :kilroy: The was the tech order then there was RL in the field. Just about the time you heared some one say, "that plane never wore that color or those markings", there was someone waitin' in the weeds with a photo of the very thing said never happened! :icon_lol:

So, with that in mind, since there were sooooooooooo many 75 gal tanks already painted and waiting to be mounted when the STOP P AINT order came down... I choose to believe there's probably a government warehouse fulll of them somewhere still today...gray ones! LOL :icon_lol:

Here's another one!

Cheers,
Duckie

I agree Duckie, and granted that the markings are 'early 52nd FG', it just sort of matches with having 'earlier' looking tanks. The second scheme is equally nice too, and both of them will look great flying side-by-side - I love the gear door decoration (I can just imagine that with the boredom that may have been felt, between missions, that striping off the checks and painting them would have been a way to kill time).

Thanks John, your comments are greatly appreciated.

Like you, I imagine boredom was the author of many "distinguishing" individual markings and other contraptions.

Thank you Duckie,

I downloaded your last 2 skins and I must say that your talent, as with fine wine, improves with age...

Please keep them coming, specially those which are not bare metal such as these last two...

I find that adding paint does give a lot of character to a plane... :kilroy:

Cheers :ernae:
