See the pic? Is there something wrong with my anti-aliasing? I don't think it's always been like this, but I don't remember when it started. The anti-aliasing checkbox under hardware display settings is checked, as it always has been, and I've played with every conceivable combination of settings in the NVIDIA control panel settings. I'm not even 100% sure there is a problem. Maybe flying FSX is causing me to expect more from FS9, but I really don't think that's it. I'm pretty sure I had less jaggies in FS9 in the past.

My system:

MB: Asus P6T Deluxe (LGA1366)
CHIPSET: Intel® X58 / ICH10R
CPU: Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (LGA1366)
RAM: 8 GB DDR3/1333MHz Non-ECC Non-Registered Memory Module
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 1536 MB 384 bit interface
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64

If you are not using the 'nVidia Inspector' utility Paul then I seriously suggest you give it a try. It replaced the old 'nHancer' utility when that stopped working due to changes in the nVidia drivers.

You can get the new utility here...

http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-Inspector-1.94-download-2612.html

...then use this guide to get it set up correctly.....

http://www.simforums.com/forums/nhancer-settings-for-new-drivers-updated-v1932_topic36586.html

That guide shows how to set up the utility for FSX but you just repeat the steps for FS9 as the values used are the same.

I use it in both FSX and FS9 and I am happy with my results.

screenshot looks like my sim does all the time :icon_lol: i can't touch AA or Traffic otherwise my system goes to Crawl mode :icon_lol:

You've got it set to "Enhance the Application Mode."
In FSX, it seems to be usually beneficial to make sure that "Antialiasing" is checked in the FSX graphics settings menu. FS9, it seems, usually runs faster if you disable the included AA and let the Graphics card do the work. You probably have AA disabled in the FS9 graphics settings menu - and enabled in the FSX graphics settings menu.
You can get AA back into FS9 by enabling FS9 in the FS9 graphics settings menu OR switching the NVidia AA mode to override the program mode.

Not really. Checking the AA option in FSX is only necessary in DirectX10 mode, because the AA will simply not work otherwise.
In DirectX9 mode however, we all disable the AA in the game and force it via NVidia Inspector or ATI equivalents.

@PRB: the other remarks are valid: you should keep the AA option in FS9 disabled, and alter your FS9 profile to:
- replace any application setting
- set the AA around 8x (be carefull with higher values, they were giving me graphic problems back in my FS9 days)
- set the texture filtering to quality or best quality
- set the anisotropic filtering to 8x or more.

I don't remember if the NVidia Control Panel allows you to alter the "transparency antialiasing" setting. If so, make sure it's set to "Disabled". Transparency AA is a ressource hog !

I'm not sure what, precisely, the settings in the NVIDA control panel do, but there are only three:

1. Use global settings (application controlled)
2. Applicatipon controlled
3. Enhance the application setting

I'm asuming here that the "application" being refered to is FS9, so all three options appear to simply use the FS9 setting (options 1 and 2) or 3 "enhance" the application setting. So it seems that all options rely, in some way, on the FS9 AA setting. I did try disabling AA in FS9, just to see, with no apparent change.

Well, I took a look in my NVidia Control Panel, and you are right, the choice to override the application settings does not appear.
So I launched NVidia Inspector instead, went to the MS Flight Simulator 2004 profile, and there I could change the parameter nammed "Behavior Flag".
It was originally set to something like "treat 'override application settings' as 'application controlled'''
I changed it to "None", then saved.

When I went back to the NVidia Control Panel, the Antialiasing mode was proposing me all the choices, including "Override application settings" :)

So you have to change that flag.

I got the NVIDIA Control Panel to allow override of application settings by going to the Global Settings tab first. Still, no change in FS9 though. Even when I had "Application controlled" selected, there was no difference in FS9 between the having Anti-aliased check box in Hardware display settings checked or un-checked. Now that makes no sense at all. I'll keep messing with it.

Strange... What NVidia drivers version are you using at the moment ?

EDIT: you said you could set to "override" in the global params, that's good.
But once you have done this, have you returned in the FS2004 profile to set it to override too ?
Also, have you tried with a lower AA power ? Like 8x ? Just for a check...

I agree 100%. NickN(eedham) is THE flightsim guru. Period. I've been using this setup and it works great.

BINGO!!!

That "nVidia Inspector" program did the trick. I was skeptical at first, convinced I could do everything it was doing with the NVIDIA Control Panel. Well, I just now installed nVidia Inspector and followed the steps in the guide for FS and BAM! No more jaggies! Thanks all, for the help!

:salute: :ernae: :medals: :icon29:

I tried this software, because I cannot have anti-aliasing on my sim, to see if maybe this will help. But it doesn't work, I think it is that my graphic card is too old. :(

PRB, glad to see you made it ! And cool shot, too :)

Lazerbel, what is your graphic card and what version of NVidia drivers are you using ?

It's NVidia GeForce FX 5200, with driver 175.19 (which is the only drivers available for this card in NVidia web page).

When I run NVidia Inspector software, the button to configure settings is greyed out and it's not clickable.

It's very very old, only 128 MB. So I can imagine there is not so much I can do with it.

I am using an AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series video card in my setup. Is there a similar FS utility for AMD cards?

I'm running the same card but with some older drivers. It got to a point with newer drivers to where they were hurting more than helping.

For older systems try nhancer. NickN also did a post for this a few years ago on the Flight1 forum somewhere.

For those of you who are using an AMD Radeon card, and are experiencing the "jaggies," do the following:
1-save the settings mentioned elsewhere on this thread, like in a text file;
2-go to Main Drive-Documents and Settings-All Users-Start Menu-Programs and double-click the "Catalyst Control Center" icon. Open "Catalyst Control Center." A window will open with a "Graphics Settings" window down the left side. There are a number of strings that can be extended by clicking the "+" sign. Check the "display manager" and "display options" boxes; within them you will find settings for each topic raised within this thread. Follow the advice for a marked improvement in your display. The two pictures on the left are prior to the changes. The one on the right is after changes recommended in this thread were applied. I no longer have the jaggies either. Thanks for the help!
