Anti-ship tactics

SOH-CM-2022
I started flying the Swordfish campaign last night and have run up against a wall.
The 4th or 5th mission requires you to attack a German destroyeer represented by the default Mogami class cruiser, the default load out is 3 x 500lb HE, which I've found to be rather inefective. The wigmen refuse to attack so I activated unlimted weapons to compensate and made repeated bomb runs scoring 24 direct hits all the while the cruiser sits there decimating my squadron.
I then decided to try torpedos however the cruiser has the uncanny habbit of hitting me just as I release the fish causeing me to miss and thus the replacement torpedo never loads...

My results so far are limmited to: loosing because I'm dead
loosing bacause all my wingies are dead
loosing bacause the target survives

Any sugestions before the admiralty send me a bill for the entire production run of the Stringbag lol.

Maybe substitute one of the excellent German destroyer ship models we have around. :) A cruiser is a tough nut.

Yes, by all means pick up the German "Zerstoerer" by the Ground Crew.

Here's the link"

http://www.regshanger.com/Groundcrew/homepage/CFS2/ships/Ground%20Crew%20Design%20CFS2%20Ships.php

Once you have and install them, edit the "Swordfish400426Konigsberg.mis" file like this:

[unit_type.3]
type_id=6098
unit_family=4
name=shj_kumano <<--rename the kumano to GC_Z10 or GC_Z32

The Konigsberg in your mission number 4 was a German light cruiser. You can get two German light cruisers here:

Or...

Or... You could do a wee bit of hand-editing on the ship's DP file and make it easier to damage...

Example below is from the stock CFS2 SHJ_Kagero:

>>> Top of DP List <<<

[SYSTEMS]
system.0=%system_name.0%,1500,-1
system.1=%system_name.1%,1500,-2
system.2=%system_name.2%,1500,-3

Etc..........

Now - I've been TOLD the numbers in
RED relate to the damage that particular area of the ship can take before destruction. If you LOWER those numbers [the general rule of thumb is by 25 - 50%], the ship will be easier to sink... Soooo -

You're gonna have to experiment with the individual systems [once you open the file with Notepad or any other text editor] and their
RED values to get the realism just right for YOU. Decks are tough, hulls are too.

Let the tweakage BEGIN !

or.........

"If you can't raise the bridge .... then simply lower the river..."

An alternative would be to edit the ships .dp to reduce the firing rate of the cruisers 25mm guns. - there are 6 of them.

The ship is actually the stock: shj_kumano

Open the .dp & locate the " GUNSTATIONS " entries

The numbers highlighted in red represent the firing interval or the time in seconds between rounds.
Doubling this number to 1.04 would decrease the rate of fire by half.

Then you'll only be facing 50% of the previous AA on your next attack.

Any editing of the ships dp file would mess it up in other missions or campaigns. Best go with the change of ship to a proper German destroyer and edit the mis file.
