Any chance of an SCW I-16?

This would be a wonderful addition to ETO, Spanish Civil War. Dancat's I-16 - with the Lewis FM and the Type 24 prop fix - seems a perfect match with an appropriate skin.

That's what I've been working on today, and almost have it finished. It'll be a Type 10, CM-260 from the 4th Squadron.

Hi Guys,

I have had Jons IL-16 for a little while now and have been putting it together a few planes for ETO. I was unable to access SOH fo rthe last month so only just now cathing up on things.

I have refined the pylons for the rockets and included bomb and drop tank load outs, alised weapons to AvHistory and have an FM done for it. auto start etc all works fine etc. it has a new engine sound included as well.

We have
Russian type 24
Russian Type 28
SCW type 24 republican colours and a nationalist type 28 in the paint shop.

The SCW versions sports Italian 100kg bombs and some old german drop tanks.

I have also repainted the VC to bring a bit more life into it.

all the files have been renamed so there will be no conflict with any IL-16 files released here at SOH.

some shots of the SCW version.

regards Rob.

Hello,
This aircraft is a real dokey !! I cannot fly it with my FF Joystick.
How can I overcome this donkey?

I'm also working on a Spanish Nationalist Bf-109E-1, number 6-98, and will get an equivalent mission from the other side posted in the coming days.

I'm sorry. No matter what the fuel load, I find this one impossible to fly. Is there some other trick?

I've now noticed that if the fuel tank is very low, perhaps 20%, you do get some measure of control. As a general principal, however, the aircraft noses upward untcontrollably, no matter how it is trimmed. Looks great, but I just can't get it to fly right unless the tank is very low.

I just ran a few experiments with a full tank at Low, Medium and Hard realism settings. In all cases if I try to fly in chase view I quickly loose control through Pilot Induced Oscillations in the vertical plane. From the pilot seat I seem to have a much better chance of feeling the sweet spot on the stick and holding it steady.

When taking off I preemptively give it full right rudder, and nose down until the speed builds up, and the wheels leave the ground. Then gear up, still holding the nose down. Once you get some speed on it's easier to control, and you can let off the down pressure a bit to let her climb. In reading about the I-16 the well known tail heaviness was seen as an advantage on rough fields as it prevented nosing over and killing the pilot when you hit a pot hole.

I actually like the responsiveness and control I get on the hard setting with my joystick sensitivities set at about the mid range. How do you have you joystick set up?

A light load of fuel definitely makes it all that much easier.
