Any suggestions for a good defragmenter?

Well, I'm getting closer to setting up FS in my no longer new computer and before I do that I want to fragment my FS partition, where I have two semi-functional FS installations that I plan to replace.

The built-in Win7 defragmenter doesn't seem to do much, so I'm looking for a better one, preferably freeware.

I read some reviews and Auslogics Disk Defrag was highly touted, but when I read further I saw that it doesn't work if you have partitioned drives, and that's what I have.

Can anyone suggest a good (hopefully free) defragmenter that works on partitioned drives in a confuter that runs Windows 7 Pro?

I like piriform ccleaner and defraggler.

They are a company based in London, New York and Europe.

Iobit is Communist Chinese. I do not trust the Communist Chinese.

If you go to their website, they never actually mention who they are or WHERE their corporate offices are.

All you have to do is read about them online. There are real problems with using IOBIT.

There is a group of "slimware" products that I have found to be very helpful. They are free-ware, crowd-sourced products.

Do a search on slimware.

I use Auslogics Disk Defrag. Works very well!

I've been using Auslogics defrag for years and wouldn't use anything else now. It does what it says on the tin about 75% faster than any MS version I've tried on numerous versions of Windows.

That one got great reviews, but they pointed out that it doesn't work on partitions, and my hard drive is partitioned.

I don't know where you read that but it most certainly does work on partitions as all my drives are partitioned, every drive I've owned since Win 2K has been partitioned and the Auslogics defrag tool has never complained.

Ah! Then I shall try it!

Thank you!

I read that, if I recall correctly, in a review at CNet Downloads.

Freeware Razer Game Booster also allows you to specify a specific directory (eg. FS9 or FSX) to defrag and you can specify lots of things to shut down when running the flightsim and starts them up after exiting.
Have been using this for a couple months and like it. (too bad they've stopped development for Win XP, but the last one they have for XP is better than the nothing I had before)

This sounds good too! I had a couple programs that would shut down extraneous processes while playing a game, but I never got around to installing them and learning about them before my XP confuter died, and the ones I had aren't meant for Win7.

Thanks!
