Anyone still using 939 boards?

Have a machspeed mobo MSNV9 939. 3800 64 Althlon procssor. Anyone using a dual core 939 processor, say FX-55 along with a 9800 video card?
Wanting to extend my machine several more years. But locating a FX-55 2.6 dual core 939 processor is a challenge.

Not a frequent poster here :kilroy: but lurk a bit....
I too have a 939 board - currently running a clawhammer FX-55 ;which is single core by the way - only duel core is the FX-60.
Wondering what kind of luck you guys with the FX-60 are having in FSX?
Worth upgrading? Only place I have seen one lately is on e-bay - not too sure I want to try that though. The clock speed on the two cores is the same as the 55 so might not gain much.

I'd recommend going for a socket 939 AMD 4800+ dual core processor. I had one in my old Alienware system...overclocked to 2.8GHZ without breaking a sweat and ran rings around the single core FX-55.
Bear in mind that the modern Intel C2D chips will easily outperform the AMD socket 939 chips...and will be cheaper and easier to find to boot. Downside is you'll need a new motherboard and memory.
 
The only thing I didn't like about my 939 socket mobo was the PCI-E graphic card slots were only 8X whereas the cards themselves were capable of 16X. Other than that I'm quite pleased with the results. Haven't flown FSX much yet but with Accel haven't seen any glaring problems.
 
Yeah, Tiger has them. The one I wanted was at 99.00 bucks, but is gone. Still looking. Thanks much for the reply folks.

Me & my big mouth. :redf: No sooner had I bragged about my socket 939 AMD system when things started going south. The display started stuttering, so I defragged the hard drives but no help. This morning the computer wouldn't even boot up, although there was power on the mobo and the case fans would start up and then stop. That's when I noticed the power supply fan wasn't moving. I'm taking the PSU out and will get it tested. :censored: At least I have my new system up and running. It's similar to the down setup only with a faster processor, more RAM, better cards, larger hard drives, and a mobo that uses the full 16X bandwidth for each card in SLI. :ernae:

MSI K8NDiamond Plus , AMD 4800 X 2, Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU Cooler
2 GB Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2PT DDR-400
EVGA 8800gt, Thermalright HR-03 Plus cooler
Mushkin 580 watt quad rail power supply, RaidMax Smilodon case with 3 fans
If you remember, could you pass on your settings to get to 2.8 GHZ? Would appreciate it.:applause:
 
@ dharris.... I'm afraid that my memory isn't as good as it should be :kilroy:...although it is a few years since I had that system. I was running the AMD 4800 chip on an Asus A8N-32 motherboard and I upped the voltages and FSB in order to achieve a stable 2.8GHZ. The system originally came with a Coolit Freezone liquid cooling system...but I removed that and stuck on a stock FX-60 heat sink fan and got better results!!:d. Don't go too mad with the voltages or you'll fry your chip
 
Thanks for the heads up. I would like to get up to 2.8 or a little more, but know that this may not be possible and still have a stable pc.

Good evening Navy Chief, how are the frame rates on your rig? I have about 12 different profiles on FSX for myself. Am hopeful that I will be able to obtain a dual core 939 processor along with a 9800 1024 MB Video Card.

i really like m& m candies. the dark chocolate ones are good, but i like the original ones better. do not be fooled into trying smarties if you are in canada. they suck!
