Anyone up for a 52" Ultrawide 5K2K?

Looks like LG will be releasing a new 5K2K Evo gaming monitor next year - in a massive 52" size.

I'm happy with my piddly little 49-inch Samsung G9. But I will be curious to hear how well the "AI" upscaling is and how noticeable it is. Any time you get "something for nothing" there's usually a tradeoff.

I will say an ultrawide+Tobii eye tracker is such an immersive experience that I only use VR about 25% of the time.

Thanks for highlighting these.

What would the viewing distance be for such a monster ? And what would the total width be ?

And, if not too much to ask, what would these be for the also mentioned LG 39 inch curved monitor ?

I have a Dell 32" curved monitor with which i am extremely happy so it doesn't make much sense asking these questions, does it.. ( it must be sort of a stamp compared to your piddly little 49", Denny..hehe) Still, you only live once, right ? I did have an LG monitor once until i threw my mouse at it out of pure frustration (i was still developing FS aircraft models then you know..) so i do like that LG 39" option to begin with. Also contemplation is one of my favourite other hobbies.

Btw, i *do* have a Tobii as well, works fine but i just can't get used to it. Also have a Reverb G2 but since i moved (2 years ago) i didn't feel like installing it. It is totally amazing, i almost cried for the first time flying my fav Tiggie. Most unforgettable feeling of virtual flight ever. But i feel it is restricted to fly GA only, anything bigger, like DC-3 f.i., and i can't be happy with how the gauges look without zooming in. Also i kinda hate that grotesk blimp on my head. IMHO VR is still too much uncomfortable and awkward yet to compensate for the amazing realism of flight. There's got to be a way to experience this amazing VR flight effect and at the same time look at your 'real' flightsim peripherals as well. Until then, i believe a lovely curved monitor is the beez knees.

Thanks very much on forehand ! :encouragement:

I'm still happy with my LG Flex 42 OLED also, but this 52" beast could tempt me to upgrade. However, it looks like it's not going to be an OLED, in which case I'd likely stick with mine.

There is really nothing beastly or massive about a 52 inch monitor.

Go mount a 75 inch Samsung QLED flat screen on your wall and sit in front of it.

Can't argue with that, as I have a 77" Sony OLED as my main TV, but I don't think I could fit a 75" QLED here... This is my current 42" Flex OLED. A 52" 21:9 would be the same height, but would fit in between my left/right speakers. Also, a dedicated large curved monitor beats a large flat panel in terms of gaming immersion (at least in my opinion). Having said that, I do know people who use large flat screen TVs/monitors as their primary display without any problems.
Having said that, I'm thinking I'll end up buying a new generation set of VR googles (Pymax Crystal Super micro OLED is currently on the top of my list).

Get a light-weight Q3 wireless, there is nothing like twisting right round to check-SIX!

Hello Dave,

I see what you mean since you are set up in a corner. I probably will not go VR for a couple of reasons, one being my eyesight and the other I could not see my controllers and tablets.

The cool thing about using a Samsung or LG TV is that they are large and you can get the cockpit almost real size. I sit about 3 feet away from a wall mounted 75 inch without any problems. I would like to get a 85 inch one of these days.

I remember very well using a 17 inch monitor and going to a 21 inch and going wow! I think that old monitor cost more than this 75 inch Samsung now!

Since you enjoy flight sim as much as you do, it is worth the time and effort to get one of these large screen TV's mounted to a wall and set up your computer around it. Getting the height right is important and trying to find the studs can be challenging. They are getting pretty cheap at Costco and they almost always seem to be running a sale. You'll never go back once you do.

Although if you go VR then none of this is necessary.

I use a 65" no name 4k TV, as well as my Q3. I fine the TV to work just fine. I also have a 4k 32" secondary monitor.

Speaking of 4k. I read an article that said you didn't need 4k for most games. Supposedly, 4k lowers the fps and doesn't give that big of a difference in visuals. I don't know. I only do sims and Skyrim on my rig. Skyrim is beautiful and runs without stutters, so I am happy. MSFS2024 will occasionally stutter under the Q3 but not enough to bother me.

I upgraded from a curved 1440p 32" Dell LCD to the LG Flex 42 OLED two years ago. Even with all the upscaling tips and tricks I tried on the 1440p monitor, it doesn't compare to the true 4K on the LG OLED. Having said that, I believe part of it has to do with going from a smaller LCD to a much larger OLED display. The crispness and contrast of an OLED is really hard to beat (which is why I'd be reluctant to go to a 21:9 52" display, unless it's using LG's latest OLED tech).

I sit close, so my 32" 4HD OLED Samsung fits my bill fine for immersion. If I like I can cast to my 65" LG 4HD Smart TV, but I fine sitting further away from the big screen makes it harder for me to read the gauges and such.

I always use this tool to calculate the numbers. In this case the screen is about 1.2m x 0.5m with 107dpi, so you can sit pretty close. It's still a letterbox aspect ratio, so a head tracker will help if you want to run a sensible FoV.

Thanks gentlemen !

My eyes have never been what i wanted them to be. It was because the school doctor told me that i deffinately needed prescription glasses that my dream of becoming a pilot was instantly shattered (by then, the 50's/60's, wearing glasses = no pilot education...). Today i use 3 types of glasses ( i can't get used to multi focus glasses i.e. i hate 'em..). One to drive my car, one to read and one to enjoy my computer monitor. And with the latter i better sit at exactly the same distance from the monitor to see everything more or less clearly. Hate to have to admit it but it's becoming more of a problem each year. Getting new prescriptions would work perfectly earlier but not anymore... I have this 32" curved Dell S3220DGF (2560x1440 (Quad HD)) and must say i like it very much. Regarding my desk it could certainly be a little bigger/wider but i was wondering if such a OLED type monitor would be a good idea to make my eyes feel better ?

Also, when i look for OLED monitors here in my neck of the woods i see 34", 45" and 49" monitors. Is there really nothing in between 34 inch and 45 inch ?....

Thanks ! :encouragement:
