Anyone using Photovg landclass?

Anyone tried or still using that landclass called "Photovg" ?

After getting my new PC and installing a fresh install of FS9 I went looking for some nice FS9 landclass and came across "Photovg". I believe it was made available sometime in 2007.

I had been impressed with pictures of the default FSX landclass platform and wished the same was made available for FS9. I stumbled across the "Photovg" landclass at Flightsim library and gave it a try. I find it remarkably close to the landclass in FSX. I believe it is all photoreal textures. The framerates seem excellent. It's hard to notice repetition. Forests, railroads, small stands of trees display random shadows which make things look more real. Railroads display depth as they cut through the countryside as well as have nice impressions of trains on the tracks as well as impressions of traffic on roads. Also very nice are the farm fields placed in the countryside, which show very realistic impressions of rowed crops, hay fields, as well as nice wet spot variation in some fields which add to reality impressions. I find it very similar to what FSX has in it as ground textures. Glad I stumbled onto this landclass. It seems best viewed from and altitude of 1500 to 3000 ft.

Love it! Anyway just wanted to bring it up in case no one has tried it before but liked how FSX landclass looks. Disregaurd if you have already tried it. It's new to me and I was so impressed with it. You can find it by doing a search for Photovg over at Flightsim.

To be honest, FSX landclass would be about the last thing I would want in my sim - but perhaps this one has nice textures? (which is an entirely different thing)
SO how about a screen or two, phantom?

Egads ***** I haven't posted a screenie in so long I will have to relearn the process:(

What is the name of a good snap shot program? I'll see if I can post a few choice shots.

You had to cut the light didn't you? LOL!

OK hope it has been a while since I've posted images. See if I got remembered how to do it.

Not bad at all for generic freeware landclass. I like it very much. Adds depth and emmersion. Don't know how I missed it back in 2007 when it apparently came out. I was so overwhelmed with it I felt like I had to post something about it.

Cheers, David

Yep, I use it. Love it! The depth of the woodlands is incredible and the farm land looks amazing. Such a huge improvement over the stock stuff. Make sure to grab the fix that goes with the package...makes it even better.

A side bar suggestion if I may. Head over to Simviation.com, do a search for Ben Hartnett and grab his replacement cliff textures. Simply stunning. Using these files, the Grand Canyon colors and striations are so much more realistic...all cliff look sharper and more real.

I looked all over the place for this fix, as I am still using the original release. Would you have a link by any chance?

Cheers,

Stuart

Edit: Found it! Simviation under Gyula Kalcso, the author!

Where do you find Photovg landclass ?

Edit:

Whoops , I guess I better have another cup of coffee . I just reread the original thread did find it at flightsim.com .

Quick question though , can you use it with Ultimate Terrain USA(FS9) ? If I understand it right , UT(FS9) does have city Landclass but I believe you can disable it within the program . I think I'll play around with Photovg and see what happens . Also , is it necessary to disable FS Genesis landclass ?

The PhotoVG package is not a landclass package...it is a collection of very sharp ground texture files..mainly for woods, forest, farm. Doesn't do cities. I would imagine that you can use PhotoVG with any landclass package and gain an improvement in how your sim looks over the stock ground texture files.

Good idea to plonk it over the top of GE Pro!
There are the trains by gum...now the weird thing is, as I panned around while flying, the train was there one moment, gone the next, and had popped up down the road!
Quite fun and almost "dynamic"

Thanks for this, and thanks OBIO for the cliffs - I'd lost them at some point and they're now back.

Going out on another side bar thingie here: This time for a major improvement in the look of the runway and taxiway textures. There is a package, not sure if it is on Simviation or Flightsim, by Brian Neitzel called aratsp.zip. Grab this package and open it. In the Texture folder, grab the runway and taxiway textures and drop them into your main Texture folder in FS9. There are also files to improved lightning and other things...but I found better stuff for those areas. The runway and taxiway textures in aratsp.zip give your runways and taxiways a worn, and maintained look. You know how they use molten tar to fill cracks in the road...those little snaky wiggly lines are black tar.....well, this package has those in the runways and taxiways....along with cracks and crumbling edges along the seams of the taxiway. Really makes the runways and taxiways look much more real.

Some time back, I think I attached a text file in a post on how to make FS9 look great for free. I need to update that text file and share it again. Lots and lots of great freeway packages that make FS9 look amazing. My current installs look almost as good as some payware based screenshots I have seen...okay, not even close to what Thunderbolt shares in the Something FS makes you go Wow thread...but good enough that I don't feel the need to spend money for payware mesh, scenery and enhancements. And I'm sure that if I spend some more time tweaking my config file, I can make it look even better...but right now I have a balance between good looks and good performance and I don't want to risk messing that up.

Hi Wing_Z,

can you please tell me if the train textures were included in that photovg package? They look very much like part of my old Realitypack 2.0 package...

Thanks!
Sascha

Sascha it's the first time I'd noticed them, but then again...my sim is additive you see.
This means that I overwrite stuff until I get a nice effect, then stop for a while.
Then I do it again.
This saves me having to back up a texture set, ever.
But ultimately I have no idea which textures come from which install.
However, I do think it's this one:

How is the Photovg on frame rates?

Willy

I had no change in frame rates using PhotoVG, when compared to the stock or GW3 stuff. My system is an older P4 system...not at all a powerhouse....so anything that does reduce frame rates are sure to reduce the frame rates on my system....and this package had no negative effect what so ever.
