Had a plane spotter visit Area 51 in FS 1954 and got a few pics

1. Our intrepid spotter
2. DC-4 that carries workers at the base from Las Vegas and back
3. Group of TBM Avengers that saw something they shouldn't have off the Florida coast in 1945.
4. Unusual German spotter plane
5. Experimental Martin bomber
6. Heinkel flying wing
7. German heavy fighter
8. Japanese jet fighter
9. German jet fighter
10. Experimental supersonic bomber
11. Alien spaceships ;)

What BV 141 is that in pic 4, is it the old FS2002 one at FlightSim?

I love the Merc Air T-shirt! Where do I get one?

I think that's Akemi's Bv 141 for CFS 2. A lot of CFS 2 aircraft make for good AI in FS, although you might have to use a different air file.

I need one of those t-shirts myself!

That is Awesome Willy! Goodness! Very impressive AI.

That is one heck of alot of work.

Perhaps someday, you could share the AI list and the BGL file so we could check it out virtually.

That UFO looking jet thing with the automatic appearing sky ramp is pretty darn cool. I take it that appears when the turbines stop? Ingenious...

Most of the aircraft were flyables I downloaded and converted to AI use by ripping out the panels and sounds and in some cases substituting air files to improve the AI's handling of the aircraft. Matter of fact, when I was taking the screenshots, I noticed that the XB-51 wasn't moving, just standing still when it should be going. I'm going to replace the Flight model on it with the one from the default Lear jet just to get it working.

Bill, I'm not sure which pic you're talking about here, but I suspect it's the last pic with the Klingon Battlecruisers from Star Trek. The problem with those is that the engine pods hang down much lower than landing gear so the pods disappear into the ground and appears like the wingtips are dragging the ground. I had to use a default 737 flight model with the original contact points to get it to fly under the AI. I started out using a very nice Bird of Prey model for this but it had some very odd behavior, so I switched to the battlecruisers.

I scratch built the AI files using yRoute and compiled them with TravelTools. I'm attaching all three text files with a few remarks inserted. I also did up an AFCAD file and gave Area 51 the icao code of KGRL, so when you see that in the files, you'll know that it's the Groom Lake test area (aka: Area 51).

A lot of the fun for me with FS AI is to put little easter eggs around the world. I've got the Beatles Yellow Submarine doing periodic circuits at Liverpool, Spitfires galore flying out of Boulder CO and Merc Air stuff pretty much worldwide. I've put so much fun stuff in that I can't remember it all and get pleasantly surprised at times.
