Ark Royal install

Okay. I'm stumped. :isadizzy:

I decided to try the freeware Ark Royal scenery by Ian Kirby, Phillip Chandler and Fraser Paterson, and encountered a problem.

I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions precisely, but the carriers are not showing up in the airport menu.

Anybody have any ideas what I might have overlooked, or any suggestions on how to get them to show up?

Thanks

Have you put the afcads in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\scenery folder? I mean AF2_ARK1.bgl and the other three?

There is at least one update file to use too. And when you have them installed, do you have the arrestor cable zones?

Yep.

Yep. But I gotta get the carriers to show up before I can use them.

I also had to try a few times before I got it to work. Did you create a folder for every version of the Ark Royal in your Addon Scenery? Each with their own BGL file in the scenery folder.

The folders must be called:
Ark Royal - Channel
Ark Royal - Mayport
Ark Royal - Med
Ark Royal - Norway

Yes you have to have 4 separate folders then activate them one at a time. Make sure the OF files is always at the top of your addon scenery in the list, what ever you add going fwd move the OF files to the top.

Once you have it you should be able to punch in ARK in the airport id and they will all show up.

Hope that helps

Not a silly question, but yes on all issues.

There are four folders. One for each carrier location and one for the flatten files, all names according to the instructions.

And they were activated in the scenery library with the flatten files folder on top.

But as of this morning (before I headed off to work, mind you), no joy.

I've checked the scenery.cfg files, and all appears in order. No errors, but I will check again later.

My first install was from flightsim downloads. I should have been suspicious because the zip file did not have a readme, and I didn't install them properly.

After my initial failure, I found and downloaded the files from Avsim with readme instructions, and started all over again.

Just for grins and repleaced all the bgl files from the Avsim download, and will see if anything shows up.

I just got home from work and am working on a glass of wine at the moment. :ernae:

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming.

Oaky, after some more trial and error I think I got it.

The instructions called for putting four files in the addon scenery/scenery subfolder. Well, that doesn't work on my setup. I relocated them to the MyWorldAirports/scenery folder. My guess is that this folder, created by My Traffic 2004 for all its airports, negates or overrides the default scenery folder.

Anyways, here's some proof....of what I was trying to accomplish.

Thanks for all your input. :ernae:

In the Country/Region box, select "ANY".
Then top center in "Airport ID" box, type ARK.

All four should pop to the top of the list.

EDIT: Oops! I see you've found your way! Happy Flying!!

When you get screenies like that, you must feel it was worth the frustration. Is that the Alphasim Sea Vixen?
