Arkansas birds fall from the sky

I wonder if they'll ever find out what happened?
Hopefully the local TV Evangelists won't read too much into it and someone will find a rational explanation!

Pretty weird though.

Weather phenomena have done things like this forever. Storms and updrafts can easily lift birds and other small animals to great heights, pulverize them with hail then cast them out to fall back to earth. It has even happened to parachutists.

'Course that's only when the weather is controlled by aliens.

One theory being bantered around ,along with weather ,were the Fire Works Display on New Years Eve...
" "Something must have caused these birds to flush out of the trees at night, where they're normally just roosting and staying in the treetops ... and then something got them out of the air and caused their death and then they fell to earth," Rowe added.
Officials also speculated that fireworks shot by New Year's revelers in the area might have caused severe stress in the birds. Rowe said Sunday there was evidence that large fireworks may have played a role."

Which Begs The Question ..what About ALL THE areas across the Nation, and World Wide..who have been using Fire Works for Hundreds of Years???...much Less War Bombardments??

Hard to believe Black Birds ,and only them,Got Scared To death!!.......Wonder what they were Drinking??

That's the curious thing for me is that it was only red-winged blackbirds - why should they be affected by freak weather and nothing else. I know they tend to flock together in large numbers but so do other species in that area.

This is a bit disturbing to me..
I am troubled when such things happen..

I am sure there will a answer at some point..
And trust in a logical approch to all of this..

But I do hate to see large numbers of any wildlife suddy die..

Well we Humans can and did get the PLAGUE,almost wiped us out......Some research now indicates even the Dinos, were susceptible to disease, and wiped them out,it seems the smallest things can knock off the biggest things.

....Its been that way since life began...".Selective Extermination".....Now some will blame Global Warming, Global Cooling,Sunspots,Bad food,Bad water,Fire Works,Weather, anything to spread their theory around..

.....This KILL did not effect any other fish species.Cat fish Thrive on this.....With the red Shoulder Black birds,it was restricted to only them....The old crows, vultures, been there ,did that, and they will thrive on this too.......Never let a Disaster go to waste it has been said, and animal's Instinctively know this.

Then Again some will say this was the results of UFO's,or Sasquatch messing up in the woods, or some other expert scientific explanation!!!...Trouble is All May Be Correct!!

chernobyl power plant....does strange things I guess...its an equal opportunity killer...Birds,People, no matter....Its surly a part of the bigger puzzle......Sorry for the capitals..got stuck in high RPMs

Massive Weather Pattern ........Tornado Alley....and the Arkansas River

Tornado Belt.........

Went right thru........

Maybe blew something into Arkansas River..........

or just ....Bird/Fish Trauma

Great stuff Tboomer57,...Do you think this is something going on since ..whatever?..and we missed this phenomanon?,or are we looking at something new!..With yet unknown sinister causes...Reminds me of studying aftermath crash situations ,,often its not one simple thing, but rather a number of events ,while one is not bad ,but a combinition of causes grief!...it makes great conjecture on here, however until the scientific world gets the answers,we are guessing!

Lets hope it is not some grim forecaster of something that effects all life!.for earth really is a fragile place and anything that effects life for some, ,effects life for all!...Thanx Vin

Destructive Fishing methods...........Pacific

Could be a really bad New Years Eve Prank......

Some good ole boys getting rid of pests........or immigrants looking for a meal??

Dynamite into a large flock of birds...........

Dynamite/Cyanide Fishing is done in Asia............Kills the fish ....but accidentally kills birds??

Drum Fish......are a nuisance spieicies....Don't they drive thru the river with nets as they fly thru the air.....or baseball bats..........and smack em???

Red Wing Black birds are hord crop eaters and hated by farmers all thru the migration........

or the Tornados spread something or just traumatized the spiecies....

Who knows..............

Did the bird really fall from the sky.......or did they get flung around the town late at night???

There have been reports of large schools fish falling from the sky on dry land .............after being sucked up into the atomosphere by cyclones/water spouts on a lake or out a sea.

a huge flock of Red Birds (who fly in massive migratory flocks this time of year heading south) could have been sucked up into the upper atomsphere............then deposited miles away

Oh..........Hail No

Looks like the winner is blunt force trauma ....from....Hail.......

At least for the birds.........

Which......

is appropriate for a flight sim site........

The migration south.....flying perpendicular....tried to get above the storm...............shot down by high altitude hail storm

The trajectory would have put them south and east of storm line.....

"Falling from the sky"

Freakishly rare weather for this time of year, the birds would have no instinctual reason for avoiding.

or staying grounded.............mass migration.......all birds in the massive flock followed leaders.

(At least that's a good explanation.............hmmm???...it's ..."The Invaders".....see "To Serve Man" thread)

Hail.........not fireworks as originally suspected

Hail.........encompasses a much larger area.....square miles

as in ..........a "Hail" of bullets

We all have been in a "Hail" Storm......and larger Hail can kill.........

It can be very dense pattern...........and 1/4" to 1/2" diameter starts to serious damage.

Every bird in the formation would be hit........for square miles.

Fireworks or even large air burt artillery................square acres

There would be variation of damage...........depending how close to the burst the bird was.

Here.......every bird had similiar blunt force trauma.

Fireworks .....would not take out over a 1000 flying birds simultaneously.

I forget where Hail developes in a Severe Storm cell...........the storm was heading southwest to northeast........but I believe the location is consistant with tornadic rotation .... hail pattern formations.

Fish died ..........a week or two before the tornados and bird incident

Fish were dead a week or two before the bird new year's eve event.

Media likes to bundle............

makes great press.........

Yet, I think 85,000 dead drum fish is a bit high of an estimate.

Let say 20,0000........maybe.

Drum Fish Disease of some sort...............is the latest reason. I believe there was a program to irradicate the Drum fish????

It seems to be happening elsewhere, and only restricted to these birds so far,....Interesting explanation was ...that these birds fly in tight mass formation, and not unlike the air demo formations, its follow the leader...no matter what...in fact accidents have happened where whole teams flew into the ground or water!....Makes sense to me..the flight leader gets disoriented ..this caused by a number of natural things, and crashes..and leading the formation with him....What caused the disorientation?..Thats where weather, hail, downdrafts, missiles, vertigo, and all the known factors in many crashes.. as far as the fishes? no clues yet, could be virus..not unlike a home aquarim when fish go belly up.VELY INTELESTINGALING!!!!.........Then again it may be the start of an Alien invasion..DO IT??..also MICKY "Ds" is on the job now..offering specials on Bird NUGGETS,and Mac Fish Sandwich........

I saw large groups of these birds in Arizona (they make a lovely noise by the way - http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=25) and I was there when there was that unprecendented hailstorm with half an hour of golf ball sized stones. I saw lots of dented cars, stripped trees and broken skylights - I saw a couple of dead birds but not a single dead blackbird. Was there even any damage to property in Arkansas?

Black Bird Flocks..........

Winter Wheat .................

Black bird flocks..........

Given.......fireworks may have stirred up the some of the flocks....which made bystanders aware of thier presence....but

Hail Storm/Lighting/Weather................

Bird bodies found.....Over 1/2 mile wide..............1 mile long............ spaced with even distribution.

(Read one theory........updraft sucked them up to higher than survivable altitude......cold and extreme exposure contributed along with Hail/lighting/weather)

Final Note: If the mile long path pattern of bird carcasses is southwest to northeast, then it is a sure bet it was weather related.
