AS/Virtavia Blackhawk Sounds

WarHorse47

SOH-CM-2024
Awhile back I reloaded my AlphaSim Blackhawk and went for a few flights. I still like this helo, but quickly reminded myself why it was in my hangar. When the engines are shutdown, there is no sound - it just stops.

I remember some discussions on the Alphasim forum and claims that they couldn't create the shutdown sounds, but other helos they made like the S-55 and Dauphin all have shutdown sounds.

So, does anyone know of a fix for this?? Or possibly a good replacement sound package?? I'm tempted to purchase the TSS Sound Package for the Sikorsky S61 from SimMarket, but was wondering if anyone had any recomendations.

Thanks in advance :ernae:

As I understand it, there are two different templates for helo's in FS9. One supports startup/shutdown sounds and the other does not. I could be wrong about that, but that's what I remember reading several years ago.

Hmmm.... Templates? I never heard that term used before with FS9. Are you refering to the sound.cfg file, or some configuration with the model files?

Thanks, Tom

Okay, I've made some progress on this subject.

The two "templates" referenced by Tom actually refer to engine types as setup in the aircraft.cfg.
In order to use sound files with a startup and shutdown for helos, I had to change the engine type from 3 to 1 as shown:

[GeneralEngineData]
//0=Piston, 1=Jet, 2=None, 3=Helo-Turbine, 4=Rocket, 5=Turboprop
engine_type = 1 //3

Once I did that I aliased the sound folders to other AlphaSim Helos such as the Dauphin and SeaSprite to test my theory and it works fine. But the sounds are not that of the Blackhawk - the Dauphin not being robust enough and the SeaSprite being too distinctive.

So, now to search for a suitable replacement of the Blackhawk sounds that include a startup and shutdown. :jump:

Some helicopter sound files are done with jet sound (templates), and some are done with helicopter sound (templates). There are also prop and turboprop "templates," I think - depending on the engine type selected in the aircraft.cfg file

Regardless, one of them supports start-up sounds, and one does not. I don't know the reasons for switching between the two, unless it is just to add start-up and shutdown, but there is likely some other trade-off that I don't remember.

Brian

EDIT - argh. too slow.

I know the LZ had a great sound pack for their H-60's but they shut their doors awhile back. If I recall it might have been freeware also, I do know that the panel was what cost the $$. Those sounds always remind me of all the time I put in with the real HH-60H's at HCS-5. Sorry I can't say go here and get this, but that was the best sounds I have found.
