Asobo F/A-18E with Warrior stores - update?

Anyone know how to get the E Hornet and Super Warrior addon to work in the latest version of MSFS?

I’ve got weird HUD error messages and issues with getting the formation lights to come on-turning them on toggles the air refueling probe.

Thx.

Are you talking about the latest update and week or so ago? I thought there was a mod of the FA/18 on Flightsim.to.

I didn’t see anything for the E pertinent to the Warrior (stores) mod.
I'm afraid that one isn't available anymore there as Touchingcloud has removed their mods from flightsim.to. They have their own page now: https://msfs.touching.cloud/

Yes, exactly where I got mine and the issues noted by others seem to persist.

It looks like the F and G two-hole models are the only working Super Hornet in MSFS, unless I’ve missed something.

You could be right DL. Haven't tried the single seater in quite a while now.

This was for the single seat Super Warrior mod, but it may help with the avionics issues.

"Fix for the bugged hmd and hud.

!!!BACKUP THE *asobo-vcockpits-instruments-fa18* FOLDER!!!

I'm not responsible if you mess something up.

Go to the packages folder (the one where you community folder is located in) then Official>onestore>asobo-vcockpits-instruments-fa18>html-ui>pages>VCockpit>instruments>FA18>shared>DDI edit the FA18_DDI_HMD.html file and place <!-- after the first line of code and -- > (without the space) after </div>

EDIT : just replace everything in the aforementioned file with the text found here: ( https://pastebin.com/zeYHDmP3).

In sim don't go to your DDI HMD page."

Hi - thanks a ton. That fixed the HUD errors.

I'm still getting a weird conflict where dialing up the formation lights knob - even to the lowest setting - instantly causes the refueling probe to deploy. I tried mapping a switch to the recognition lights, but it still pops out the probe - strongly suggesting the toggling code for the probe is tied to the code for formation lights.

Does anyone know if this can be fixed?

thx,

dl

I do not believe the Super Warrior mod includes a refueling probe. I included one in my extra 'weapons mod' which you might have installed also. I did eventually change the probe to use a different light, but I don't remember if that version was ever posted publicly or not. I will investigate more when I can.

Thanks. I did a fresh reinstall yesterday of just the SW package from here: https://flightsim.to/file/64443/fa-18e-vfa-103-warrior - since it was dated Dec 2023 / v3.0 I figured that it was newer than the Touching Cloud package from here:

If I got the wrong one, please advise.

But installing the aforementioned package definitely has both the load-configurable and "refueling" options with the problem of the refueling probe popping out when the formation lights are dialed on.

I say "popping out" because the probe does not deploy the way you'd expect, as say on the the F and G two-seat models - where toggling the wing lights mapped button (as per their instructions) deploys the probe correctly - with opening of the cover panel, slow extension, closing of the cover panel, etc.

So the instantaneous popping out of the probe suggests to me, at least, a coding conflict with the probe and formation lights. Again, I could be (and likely am) wrong.

Put another way, while it'd be nice to have both, I'd rather keep the formation lights and lose the refueling probe functionality, if push came to shove.

Anyway, anything you or @azflyboy can suggest would be most appreciated - I think the E SW mod is a bit nicer than the DC Designs F/A-18C model, with crisper textures, a more correct stance (the Legacy Hornet sits way too high on the landing gear stroke).

Nice as I find the F and G, there's something about the single seat E - with stores, that makes the Super Warrior that extra bit nicer than either the Asobo E or the Legacy C.

thanks,

Ah, yeah the problem is that link isn't actually the Super Warrior mod, it is my weapons mod that Marine1 found, mis-attributed, and then uploaded himself without permission.

The true SW mod is the same one as on the Touching Cloud website. My mod goes over top of the SW mod to add weapon models, the refueling probe, and some other stuff.

Even when it was posted that was not the latest version and I have made more updates to it since. I plan to post it publicly, but I have just not been playing FS enough to give it a good test before declaring it done. The goal is that it makes the E essentially the same as the F and G - since that's how I like them, that's what I have been working to.

You can download V16 of my mod in this folder for now - I can't promise it is fully done but it should work better than what you have now

Thanks so much - I can't wait to get home tonight to try this.

In the meantime, I did download your file, and in the readme saw that it in fact needs the Touching Cloud v10.5.1 package installed first, then the v16 pack you uploaded thereafter.

Since per the readme, the wing lights mapping toggles the refueling probe, does that mean it's uncoupled from the formation lights switch? Meaning turning on the formation lights in the cockpit won't deploy the refueling probe?

Thanks for setting this content all straight, and for posting the mod in it's current state. Will install tonight and report back.

cheers,

dl

Ok - did a quick test - the lights work as they should unnconnected from the probe. I've not gotten the cockpit to be able to open yet, and the tailhook brings up a meatball that is redundant given I'm running Miltech's Supercarriers and that brings up it's own meatball.

But overall, I'm thrilled - I love this E, and I'm going to get a lot of time on it. My preference being line paints, the VFA-151 is my favourite so far, followed by the VFA-14 - but will hunt down a few more.

thanks,

dl

I think it will not open. Asobo product. You are trapped inside and can't get out. None of the Black Square redos of Asobo airraft have openable doors.

Glad to hear it's better! I don't remember if the E model cockpit opens at all (I don't think the animation is present in the model so I can't trigger it in any way) and I am not sure why there is a meatball gauge; I did not intentionally add that one so not sure where it even comes from.

I have always hoped for more Super Hornet paints for all of the models, but no one seems that interested sadly. I have LOTS of aircraft both public and private that could use some texture work.

In fact, the E's canopy does open, technically. Toggling the "L" key toggles the canopy opening, refueling probe deployment, and all lights on. Of course, I use key assignments to toggle probe and lights properly/independently, but I haven't yet figured out which individual "light" key toggles the canopy.

That, and the ladder deploy would be ideal if it could solved, but frankly, it's already awesome as it - so thrilled and thankful @SeeRyFly posted his files and instructions.

Thanks again all!

I checked it quickly last night; the canopy is bound to taxi lights (I try to be consistent with this) and the switch under the right hand lip of the canopy also works to open/close it

Thanks amigo! I'll look again tonight. I tried the switch that looked closest to one on the DC F/A-18C on that panel - will mouse over more slowly. :)
