Good evening,

Please read: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...12-Recent-Problems-at-SOH&p=702259#post702259

What we might want to do is go through the Warbirds Archive and select "common files." (Stuff used for campaigns, common aircraft, vehicles, you get the idea)

Those can then be uploaded to the new library. It's kind of a tough call, but this might be a good way to stop this whole "dual library" beast we've all had to live with.

The only thing is, I'm going to be really busy through May 4th, so I'll need to have all of us make this a group effort. I'll catalog entries into the new library, but I can't comb through the old one right now.

If worse comes to worst, I should still have access to the old FTP folder after May 4th, and can do some of the files then. But any group effort we can do to transfer the old files would be fantastic.

Yuck. Dose NOT sound like good way for find somthing...

Sounds like time for a plan to get all the old things on to the new place fast...

I think from what I gather that links won't eventually work to the Warbird's Archive section because this older section is not capatable with new server software updates, but the old files can be searched for with a zip or exe filename as in Seagull's post.

Some files that come to immediate mind in the Archive section to move to the new section are:
Piglet's Storch
Dbolt's Corsair and U.S. Weapons
Bearcat241 B-26 and Updates
Lawdog sounds
achim27619 airfields

I can re-upload new and updated FDG P-61 package from my PC. All link information in the readmes will need update.

I more or less have all of B24Guys Overhauls on my PC now. However it would be better to not to upload the to the main with out doing some work to them. A: B24Guys put out a number of fixes that should be applied before being uploaded to the new Warbirds Library. B: Some don't work on Win7 do to having panels that are only 1024x768.

Since I more or less have all of B24Guys Overhauls and have already done the Win7 panel fix for the the Overhauls I will do both and upload them unless B24Guys says not to.

It appears to me that the files in Archive can be uploaded directly into the new Library by selecting the URL for each file in the Archive, rather than uploading them from users' computers. Is this correct?

Robert John, what is the naff stufe you are talking about? I sure don`t want to lose your hangers or controll towers.I am going to need them soon.

Good evening,

Guys, the insanity of my life has subsided ever so slightly. Before I respond to any more threads though, I'm going to bed for a full eight (or more) hours of sleep. :sheep:

Getting organized...

Okay folks,

Shessi has already uploaded about twenty aircraft and other items into the new library, and placed them into the appropriate sections.

Let's do this right...

Good afternoon,

Here's the deal. If I'm going to spend another summer in the library, here's how it's going to have to work.

I'd like to see if we can eliminate having to use the old library once and for all. What I'd like to see happen is for various users to just go through the Warbirds Archive, section-by section, and upload files from the archive to the new library.

Anything involving a "404 error" has a 99% chance of being in the new library. Less than 200 of the files lost in the server crash were not recovered, and these files were archaic to begin with. We can also "trim down" files we no longer use anyway.

Please make sure you include original descriptions, readme files, and if you can, pictures. And please, list the files you have uploaded in this thread!

Thanks,

This is not a small feat. I can't agree that most of these are archaic as some of the files are mainstays like xavierb, virtual navy, thicko and Wolfi.

Over the last 3 days I have downloaded every remaining CFS2 file in the archive for the following authors:

Classic Aces
Smashing Time
SOH Donationware
sssmokin
stiz
Take53084
Talon
The Virtual Navy
thicko
UncleTgt
voodoo5000
warbirdover
Watchdog22
Wolfi
Wulf190
xavierb
the old Captain Kurt files

It is 1.81 Gigabites and that's nowhere near everything that's still left, plus you have to record the description for each file and if there is one, try to grab the thumbnail.

I'll never have thime to upload all of these but I am going to keep dowloading in case some are lost during the transistion because someone else did not get a file loaded that I might need before everything becomes an FTP only file. Maybe that's dumb? :costum:

For a Limited Time Only....

Cap'n K - Don't feel too bad about storing files for possible restoration.

I've been rat-holing ZIPs and self-installers since 1998... and have over 68 Gigabytes on redundant drives for posterity.

It's going to be my way of giving back some day, if it ever becomes a necessity... and how I do it here when needed.

Kurt,

I just meant the two hundred that weren't recovered were archaic. Not the rest, my good man! :salute:

There are close to 5000 files in the CFS 2 section of the Archive alone. Is there any way of uploading files en masse? I know from last time we did this, it can be very tedious, especially when you include a description and picture. Can the picture be added at a later date?

I am willing to do my bit if the only way of doing it is to upload the files individually. I can start on the Scenery section in chronological order, oldest files first. I'll try to keep each author's files together in a block, since we don't have a search facility by authors' names in the new library.

I think this massive project is going to need many helpers. :a1089:

Kdriver,

Yeup, my thought was to have each user upload a few a day...it's one of those scenarios where we'll all kind of need to pull the line together. That's why I'm waiting to post any updates I've been working on until after we get everything transferred over.

Rami,

I've made a start by uploading all of MaskRider's files from the Archive to the Scenery, Other and Utilities sections of the Library. His avatar needs to be substituted for mine.

There are two Lindsay Watt files in Maskrider's name, viz. lwd_tree_library.zip and lw_library_objects.zip. I haven't uploaded these.

Perhaps you could delete files from the Archive as they are uploaded so any unnecessary work is negated.
