XP service pack 2 go out and refresh your data to make sjure go back to

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3

right klick the Shell aplication and send it to your desktop i renamed it CFS3 online

Enjoy and thanks OFF P2 team and Deadmeat1971 for finding out

My Hero

Dedmeat you made my day. I flew today in cfs multiplayer for the first time since I got my new computer in March 2007. Thanks for not giving up. In addition is Is there anyone in particular on the OFF team we should thank?
Coldad :applause:

I must be the only one using Vista who can't get OFF (and now thanks to the work of Deadmeat) to get CFS3 to work with multiplayer. No matter what I do, I get a mismatch message - and I'm only trying to connect to two home computers just floors away in my home. I've tried everything.

I did note in Axenti's post that there is a recommendation to set the shell compatability to both the XP Service Pack 2 and "Run as Administrator". Although I've set the shell to the Service Pack, the option to "Run as Administrator" (either in OFF or now in CFS3) is not available. (I can't click on it.) Does anyone know how to correct this and can this be related?

wsmwsm, try rightclicking the mouse on the Shell.exe file. A box should come up, choose 'Run Adminstrator' (should be located on the second line). Zoom on the picture above for details..

Coldad, I wish I could thank the one from OFF who made the multiplaying part. I did made a "Thank you" thread on the OFF forums anyway. So they should know already by now. I discovered this by 'pure luck' (I'm always a puzzle-solving kind of guy--LOL---I don't want to give up). I make maps on own anyway as a hobby (CFS3, OFF, Doom, Quake 2, Soldier of Fortune 2, etc.). I'm going to buy their Phase 3 as a 'thank you' on my part. Take care and Welcome to the Skies!!!

sometimes i get that mismatched game alsow i know it works my game that i hosted was running whole te time and it is still running now, no players do :p anyways if you cant connect because of a missmatched game thats because there are files on your game missing (there are a set off Aircrafts that ere not in your layout when you connect to that IP, the server is carying stand allone aircraft or remodifficated files in the launch)
then you cant paly on that part

if you get the line that you cant connect because you have no connection to the internet or the host name is incorrect that part is simpel your login dusnt acnolage the IP adres a connection has to be made under T1 at all costs this part i dont know a realy answer maybe others know

with me it works fine but you have to take in a note for your selves that i had a clean install i build it up with nothing modificated.

SO IF YOU COPY THE SHELL FILE and it dusnt work and you know that you have been modificated then there may lay your problem so i dont want to make it difficult for the ones where it dont work atholl now i think you have to reinstall it all without modificating anything.

Reinstall first everything that you want from the add ons then copy the shell.exe and then modificate your games

in my mind modificating is change so not original and like i see it you need everything first clean to work fine if it works fine then you may modify

Axenti: If I understand then, I should try to uninstall, then reinstall CFS3 (in my case, on two computers) then give it another go.

I will give it a try.

i know its a lot of work but it givs a good winning feeling if you manage that
make sjure to follow every step dont pase over one step if you notice a conflict you need to start over again.

if you install it like i typed out there you will not have a conflict i dint have one

so i hope it works out for you

For those not having the OFF P2 Shell.exe. As an experiment you might want to right click the cfs3.exe and under properties select "run as administrator" and also select windows xp service pack 2 compatability mode.

I think that experiment has been tried repeatedly, rbp - the result was a raspberry every time. :banghead: Hence the general rejoicing that this nut has been cracked! :ernae:

I was informed that there is no difference between the Shell.exe OFFP2 file and the cfs3.exe. If that is the case then people without the Shell.exe OFFP2 should be able to change the properties of the cfs3.exe and have the same results. But it may very well be that it won't work. I believe the OBD folks frown upon the distribution of their work by means other than their website.

And quite right, too - they did the work (for nothing!), they're entitled to say how it's made available. I got my own copy of P2 when it was still available for download. Anyone wants it, go to the OFF forum and request a DVD swap!

We owe the OFF team a great deal, imo; first for OFF, then for TrackIR support for CFS3 under Vista and now for cracking the CFS3/Vista online headache. Cheers, guys! :applause::applause::applause: :ernae:

Shell.exe is NOT needed.

If you had read all the posts I've presented (it was a continuing and learning process), it didn't take long to figure this out. If you read the ****warning**** thread above (after doing series of tests on ETO and Game Ranger), you could see why I have come to this conclusion...

Once again, I apologize for those who went all the trouble in installing OFF Phase 2, just to get that Shell.exe file. It has come to my realization is that you don't really need the Shell.exe in order to make the multiplaying work under VISTA.

Read this thread, carefully:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=8823

The Shell.exe was actually probably a stock cfs3.exe renamed. It was only modified by its name!

By following the complete instructions from the thread, just rename the cfs3.exe into whatever name you choose from the top of your head. You could try sample names like vista.exe, cfs3vista.exe, vistacfs3.exe, cfs3mp.exe, whale.exe, etc., as long it's not cfs3.exe!

Once again, thanks for my beta testers and those who has and still continued to spread the words...

Thank you.

Some one's got way to much time on their hands! LOL! And I'm really glad he does! I would have never figured this one! GREAT JOB!:friday:

GOOD! but bad also

YES DEADMEAT THX FOR HELPING BUT!,USING THE COPY ALSO MAKES THE GAME SLOWER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!!!!!!! SO EVERY GAME I JOIN IS SO SLOW! GUYS CAN FLY IN WATER!!!!! SO HERES ANOTHER TASK! DO YOU THINK YOU CAN MAKE THE COPY RUN AS FAST AS THE ORIGINAL? IF SO PLZ TELL ME! :jump: THANK YOU

:kilroy:Mavrickarrior, I do not feel that that is a fair statement.

You need to understand that the mod did not make the game slower.

What made the game slower is lag caused by latency (in ms, or milliseconds).

When you are in-game online, if you press the letter "Z", there will be flight info in the upper left-hand corner of your screen.

If you are the game host, this latency will be zero (0). If you join someone else's, this latency will be higher than zero (0). The higher the number, the greater the latency.

Other factors also figure in this. One is the type of internet connection(s) you and/or others are using. Dial-up and wireless are the among the worst. Another can be location, or rather, the distance from the host, on the internet.

It's these factors that tend to slow the game, not Deadmeat1971's mod.

Also try this. When you start your game up, click on the OPTIONS tab in the upper right-hand corner of the UI screen. Then click on MULTIPLAYER OPTIONS. Click on Connection Type and pick T1. That will help a little.

The people who devise the various mods for this game do a bang-up job.

Since you have been here, a number of people have tried to help you, including myself.

I feel that you should be more appreciative of that fact, and try a little better to try to understand what is being said to you in assistance. Wouldn't you say that that is the fair thing to do? Don't try to be so judgemental until you learn more about this sim and how things work.:d

hey hey im not dissing him didnt you see the smiley? all im saying is that the regular game runs smooth and the copy of 'cfs3'doesnt
