ATTN Dev's: Game uninstaller ... doesn't...

I would have PM'd the dev's with this but sending a PM is not an option (at least I didn't find it) so I'll post this issue here.

Having applied/tried various suggested config tweaks to help improve my frame rate and unable to find any way to restore everything to a default state I uninstalled both OFF and CFS3 to get back to a clean slate to start over.

I did all the normal post uninstall steps (reboot the system, defrag, run regedit to remove any orphaned game files under OBG, Over Flanders Fields, etc., ran CCleaner to find anything I missed) and once done I rebooted the system, one more defrag and started reinstalling CFS3, the patch and then OFF and the patch, then fired up OFF to remap my joystick, set the resolution, etc.

To my surprise all of my previous grahics settings were still intact as were all the remapped joystick button assignments.

Can someone please explain how this could have occurred. Did I miss a folder in, say, My Documents or somewhere else that contained this info that wasn't removed when both games were uninstalled?

OS XP ?

\Documents and Settings\xxxxxxx\Application Data\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields

Make sure you delete that too.

Use Add/remove programs too, not anything else for a more thorough uninstall.
Search for "OFFManager" in registry make sure it's no longer there before install.

BTW "Reset CFS3" button workshop, then CFS3Config (and set custom to DEFAULT first would likely avoid a reinstall).

I'm running XP Home w/SP2. And I did use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the games.

I was aware of - and tried it first - the Reset CFS3 Button in Workshop but it didn't reset the settings to default. As for CFS3Config I assume you mean in the CFS3 game itself?

Oops. Never mind. Forrest through the trees thing .... Reset CFS3 was starring me in the face and didn't see it in Workshop.. :faint:

I'll try resetting both and see what happens. As for the OffManger leftover in the registry, I've written that down for future reference. Thank you!

Resetting CFS3 and OFF doesn't remove the joystick remapped button settings [added] to the default keyboard values. Put another way, when I remapped my joystick buttons I did not delete the default keyboard key setting, rather, I opted to add my button setting to the default board key (and/or combinations).

What I don't understand is why having uninstalled both games via Add/Remove the joystick button remapping (added to the default keyboard keys and combinations) was still present..

Would this information be in the OFFManager file still in the registry after uninstalling the game?

Did you delete \Documents and Settings\xxxxxxx\Application Data\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields too though? Normally files in there would not get removed.
(Mine.xca for example!)

No - nor wouldn't have it occurred to me to look there after an uninstall. Will keep this info for the future though. Thanks..

Pol: I can't imagine many people uninstalling OFF, unless for some corruptions, but it might be yet another thing to add to the FAQ. I did, infact, have to uninstall both OFF and CFS3 myself, but after a reinstall of both everything seems to be working fine again.

The Inno un-installer cannot uninstall software that it has not installed and this includes the files that are setup by CFS3 when going to run time - mostly the ones in the C:\Documents and Settings\'username'\Application Data\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields

And a few files in \CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields also that are created in runtime.

The registry is cleared and all other files removed.

Basically this is a consequence of OFF being an Add-on and not a complete install.

Thanks for the explanation. Might consider this info be added to the FAQ?

And being new to the OFF series I wasn't aware of the support email option (which I'll save)
