Autogen Question

Beginning to wonder if going back to "good ole" P3D_V2.0 wouldn't be a good idea. I've had nothing but problems since installing 2.1. . .none of which were present with 2.0. This is just the latest. . .Autogen that extends for approx. 10nm in all directions, but no further. The settings have been adjusted everywhere from max to normal and back again with no change. Any suggestions?

Hi Ed, In the P3D.cfg does it have a section like FsX:

[TERRAIN]
LOD_RADIUS=4.500000 ?

If this is increased does it extend the autogen distance?

I will check that straight away Roger, thanks!

It won't stick - the maximum is 6.5 and the cfg will be at 6.5 maximum when you close the program, providing that you have the LOD set at max within the scenery setting of P3D. Yes, I have tried it and then found it was confirmed on other forums.:banghead:

Looks like V2.2 will be released quite soon and has some very improved VAS usage but don't know if the LOD has been increased. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/437863-p3dv22-beta-2-infovideo/ Also info on the LM Prepar3d forum.

Be patient. V2.2 is working wonderfully and it will be released to the public within a few days. The reduction in VAS consumption is HUGE, and the changes to the autogen veggie system allow much higher settings with about 17 times reduction in memory usage.

What is VAS and how do I go about monitoring it (if that's even possible) during a Sim session?

Virtual Address Space. Here is a program from Microsoft that will monitor it. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

Here is the definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_address_space

With a 64bit OS, Win7 64 for example, you have a total of 4GB of VAS available for ALL processes and programs running at the same time on your computer. All Flight Simulator programs use a lot of VAS thus the importance of the new P3DV2.2 update and how it frees up more VAS. Use up your VAS and you crash the program. Not any fun in the middle of a long flight!

Hope this helps.

PS. A 32bit OS gives only a 2GB VAS thus the importance of running a 64bit OS

re. 32 bit and 2 gig VAS ...

... I use the 3 gig switch on my older XP 32 bit rig, might be helpful to some not ready to upgrade their OS just yet (like me) for Windows Vista, 7, or XP.

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/suppo...-Windows-Vista-Windows-7-or-Windows-XP-s.html

Afterwards (after reboot) when I right click on computer and select properties, it shows a new line 'Physical Address Extension'.
This could stave off a new OS and software reloads until a new computer is necessary if current performance is adequate for FSX/P3D.
Just saying, in case helps anyone.

If you own a registered version of FSUIPC, you can display the remaining VAS at the top of the screen, as well as have a warning 'ping' when remaining VAS is getting dangerously low...

Bill, have you ever considered writing a book? lol. . . .just a wealth of knowledge. Thanks! I have reverted back to ver2.0 for the time being until I see what 2.2 holds. I know they're still working out the kinks, but I'd like to see something that has the appearance of being relatively stable before I go beyond what I have right now.
