Autopilot

Dear SOH Community,

Please forgive me if I have asked this question before, but I am wondering if there is an "autopilot" functionality in CFS2?

I have searched the settings assignments and I have seen multiple entries having the word "autopilot" but none of them have been assigned and I am not sure what to look for.

I struggle at times with carrier takeoffs and carrier landings and though it might be nice to have an "autopilot" on.

Thank you for whatever insights you can offer.

Sincerely,

Data / Kris

You can't use autopilot for takeoffs and landings. You need to make slight stick and throttle adjustments for landings and for takeoffs, you need stick control to counteract propeller torque.

There is an autopilot function in the CFO Weather module that is rather complicated to use. There is a function in Zonaid that will add a simple autopilot to the panel of any airplane in your "hangar" that is very simple - you can st altitude hold and heading hold with a mouse click while flying.

1,2,3,4,5

I use the numbers 1,2,3,4,5, since most all of us have joystick throttles now a days
You can assign number 1, as autopilot master switch 2, altitude hold, 3, heading hold 4, NAV1, 5, approach mode

Thank you CaptMercy!

Based on your comments below, if I were to follow a similar setup, which buttons / commands (if it will work) need to be used for takeoff assistance and for landing assistance?

My apologies that I need to ask, but having the order for each event would prove beneficial for me to try.

captmercy,

My memory is a little foggy. I have never used the NAV1 Approach mode function in CFS2. I have used it in FSX and FS9. I was under the impression that it required an ILS signal from the runway you are a approaching. No? Most CFS2 runways don't have built in ILS functionality do they? How does it work in CFS2? If you approach at the right angle and altitude will having NAV1/APP mode activated allow your plane to automatically turn in the direction and heading of the runway? Like I said my memory is foggy on this point.

My latest up loads all have an iLS installed at Port Moresby from what I understand even though they had early VOR (var) and iLS equipment in WW2 they just stayed with NDB (adf) stations as the standard so they wouldnt have to reorganize everything including aircraft avionics you would be more likley to see an early iLS system over any kind of VOR station during the war not saying they had one at Port Moresby after the war the only one in the USA for many years was at San Francisco check out the movie "The High and the Mighty" to see John Wayne and crew shot the iLS integrated with and ole Radio Range system into SFO
