AvHistory moves on

Some of us have been wondering for a while what Bear and Gregory have been up to, but now we know. They are leaving CFS3 for Strike Fighters 2 (by Thirdwire) to pursue their flight and damage model research.

For those of us with long memories, this is actually like AvH returning to its roots and I would like to publicly thank Bear, Gregory and all the others over the years for their immense contribution to the development and enjoyment of CFS2 and CFS3 add-ons. :applause::friday::applause::friday::applause: I still remember how dramatically different the AvH flight models were after the underwhelming stock models.

Two small requests, chaps. All those nearly-finished CFS3 aircraft are singing - Please release me, let me go... - let 'em out, please! And Gregory, since we are going to have to work out our own FMs, could you republish the old AvH posts on the CFS3 flight model?

No pressure...!! And thanks again for all the good times!

:friday:thanks for all the good work AvH, you have helped many people enjoy this sim for a very long time. It is a shame you are moving on, but please accept my best wishes for your future endeavours.

regards
MC

Thanks AvH! Your FMs are top notch! Now you got me thinking about a new rig. Ummm, pre-owned?

:friday:

Thanks for all your time and effort. You made a difference in the CFS3 community for sure.
Hell, Microsoft should hand you folks a big giant check!

Thank You Bear and Greg for all your hard work and efforts within the CFS3 community. You both deserve a huge thank you from all of us!!! I can empathize with both of you wanting to move on to other things. I wish you both well in all your future endeavours!

It's shame that's happening.

I see SF2 is a download paid for thru PayPal. I don't and won't use payPal. Any idea when it'll be availabe in stores besides Amazon.com?

You're totally right not using Paypal. Last time I donated my credit card info was captured and I only knew this a short while ago.:bump:

Avh was a great source of enthusiasm and help for all simmers of any age. Thanks guys!

Sad news for us. Thanks the AvH team for it's major contribution in CFS3 ! Without you the CFS3 sky would not have so many superb aircrafts ! :ernae:

as I posted in AvH forum, I can say it's so sad to hear the news...
I just want to thank bear and greg for all they did for us enthusiasts of ww2 warbirds and wish them all the best for their new adventure!
my best regards!!!
P.S. hope you get back one day....

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the wonderful kudo’s! Just so you know we are continuing our WW2 research with the Strike Fighter 2 (SF2) engine.

As you guys know, our interest is research and discovering the truth of how these aircraft really fly. We rely on physics and science over someone’s opinion or fudging a few numbers. CFS provided a good foundation to build off of but is lacking key tables we needed to code around (a frustrating task). Still CFS3 is far superior to the simple force model Oleg uses or the arcade stuff A2A/Shockwave uses.

AvHistory always monitored other sims that might provide a better research platform. Recently 2 things occurred. 1) FS died taking any hope of a future CFS with it 2) Changes in the Strike Fighter engine that made it the superior research platform.

The best part is, the developer actively supports his product and is appreciative of the efforts of all 3rd party developers. To be up front, Thirdwire will never release a WW2 sim. The current SF2 engine can and does support WW2 aircraft; In addition, they will support (given enough time) additional functionality if needed to simulate WW2 aircraft.

All of us saw the potential of CFS, and SF2 is at a similar point. A lot can be accomplished with it. Watching a group like MAW, PAW, ETO or OFF would be amazing.

The test WW2 aircraft we have flying around SF2 are a great step up from CFS3. In fact, most of our time is being spent removing the work-arounds needed for CFS3. Here’s a partial list of the functionality SF2 has that CFS3 does not:

ATC
Carriers (yes you can land on them)
Mirrors
Radar (many types)
A2A/A2G Missiles
Ejection Seats

Here’s some screen shots of some content created by 3rd party developers:
