AVIA 57 TEXTURE PROBLEM??

I don't know if anyone out there has experienced this little glitch, but I seem to have a problem with the textures for the "Bush" variant of the 57 wheeled version which are simply not showing. I have checked the aircraft config for any errors but all seems ok, the correct "model" folder is there, I have re-downloaded the the aircraft and re-installed but with the same result. An all -grey shape will show on the menu, but minus it's textures!!
On loading the aircraft, the untextured model would show, but minus panel and sound.
I have managed to get round the problem by using the "cargo" textures from the floatplane variant (both are Goodman Air Cargo) and doing the appropriate edits to the config file and the aircraft now displays correctly.
So, although I now have the aircraft showing and usable, it's still a bit of a puzzle as to what may be the problem. Any suggestions or comments please

Hello David -
As far as I remember (and sometimes that's not very far) it was done that way to reduce the size of the download. There may have been something about it in readme, but you found the right solution anyway. Well done! :ernae:
There's no harm in having extra texture bmps within the Texture folder - if the mdl wants them they're there, if not, no problem. That's why the bmps just have names like fuse_top. bmp, without including the aircraft name.
A grey shape in the selection window means that FS recognises the model, but it can't find that particular texture folder, or the folder is empty.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply. There is something in what you say about download sizes, but, this is somethingn that I have never encountered in any of Mr Shupe's aircraft. One bit of further information is that I did try using other textures and model files on that particular variant (taking care with the config edits of course), but however I permed it I still ended up with the untextured aircraft. All other variants are fine, so I suspect an issue with the model file itself, particularly since the aircraft shows fine using the "cargof" model from the floatplane variant. Hope that makes sense!!

In my FSX, for the wheeled Bush version, model=Bush in the aircraft .cfg - does your install have that model?
I used the auto-installer for the portover version and it all worked. If I had run into any probs I would have been able to offer more help.
Usually when you have a texture which does not fit the model, you just get a black window in the selection box.

Hi Milton
Thanks for the reply, yes the pattern is exactly the same. In any "none show" issues the config is always the first thing I check looking particularly at the points you have highlighted. I have had the 57 since you released it and unfortunately can not remember if I have selected the Bush variant before, so not sure how far back the problem may go.
What I have done however is re-install from my own archive, with the same result and then re-installed from a fresh download - no change!!

David,

Does your texture.bush folder have 61 objects for 82.8MB?

If so, then maybe the size of these textures are overly taxing your video card?

You can make a copy of the folder and set one aside.
Convert the 4096KB files to DXT3 or re-size them to 512X512 while protecting the alpha channels.

DXT3 would be easier possibly depending on your conversion tools.

This would tell us whether the overall size of all the extra textures is the culprit.

Milton, apologies for not responding to your suggestion earlier, but had quite a lot on for the last couple of weeks. After 11 years of simming I'm still on a learning curve and unfortunately have neither the expertise or the soft ware to try your re-sizing suggestion.
What I did do yesterday evening was to take the plunge and do a complete re-install. The first aircraft I added was the 57 and guess what, the previously "rogue" Bush texture now displays perfectly!! I can only assume some sort of glitch somewhere that caused some sort of conflict, that being the limit of my diagnostic abilities in this case. Anyway, never mind the inquest, the status quo has been restored and my thanks for your interest in trying to help me resolve the problem.
