AWOL Pilot in ETO 1.50

Greetings All,

The Subject should read "Pilots", because everyone of them and all of the various features of NEK have vanished. I have done a search here on the SOH Forum going back 1 year and the same at the OZ Forum, but can not find any ideas regarding how to restore a lost pilot, after following the provided documentation. After flying a routine training flight, I deleted the 'unlimitedpilots.xml' file from my C:\User\Appdata\Microsoft\CFS3Expansion file; the next time I started the game, everything went smooth...but no Flyer? I have done "repair" process several times; ETO 1.50 starts fine, but the NEK will not start, or the NEK Pilot file will not open and find my AppData file ?? Is there a way to re-install the NEK sub-app back into ETO 1.5? Or Am I not looking at this problem correctly. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading my post,

Hi Ohiotrooper,

Double check these two files in your main ETO game folder are still there.

country.xml
unlimitedpilots.xml

these are the two files that are used by the game to compile the UnlimitedPilots.xml file inside the \Application Data\Microsoft\CFS3 ETO Expansion_________ folder.

If they are still there, right click on them and open with notepad to check they are still displaying properly. it maybe that one of these files has become corrupted somehow?

Also make sure the files inside the application data folder are not set to read only.

PM me an email address if you like and I'll send over copies of my files for you to try.

You could also try deleting the uisel.xml file in the application data folder.

CFS3 1.5 Functions and Flys Fine; but No Pilot...Still

Thanks for the reply and suggestions, Capt. Winters. I did try all of your suggestions and made the appropriate checks. As usual, the Game will not start with the Unlimitedpilots.xml not file in the Appdata file. I tried to remove the uisel.xml file and leave the Unlimitedpilots.xml file in place--no start. All files look good when I compared them to other iterations of CFS3. This is very odd to me; the game starts fine, with great scenery (I can even see the turret Gunner), and when I click on the "Pilots" Tab, I have the full list of pilot names and nationalities (with flags). This the same with Missions and Aircraft. Everything is there but the animated Pilot....And since I am doing the flying, who needs him anyhow? I probably have to pay him union wages and benefits anyway. It would be nice to figure out, though. Is there anyway to re-install the NEK app for 1.50 without mucking things up? If not, maybe I should just leave it as is and enjoy flying it, if it won't cause issues in future upgrades (?). Let me know what 'ya think. I appreciate your input.

Best Regards,

Hi Ohiotrooper,

I misunderstood your first post, I thought the list of pilots in the selection list had disappeared in game after you deleted the unlimited pilots.xml file out of your application data folder.

But reading above it looks like you have the following problems.

1. if you delete the unlimitedpilots.xml file out of your application data folder and then try to start the game, the game fails to start, is that true?
2. the game is not building a new unlimitedpilots.xml file and placing it into the application data folder.
3. when you fly in game you currently cannot see the modeled pilot in the aircraft.

I believe the problem of the pilot not being visible in game will be rectified once we can work out why your system is not building a new unlimitedpilots.xml file.

If you PM me an email address I'll send you over copies of the files for the Application data folder and replacement files for the main ETO game directory.

First step will be to replace the country.xml and unlimitedpilots.xml files in the main ETO folder with my copies, then delete/remove the unlimitedpilots.xml file from the application data folder. then try to run the game. If it starts and it builds a new unlimitedpilots.xml file in the application data folder then you had some sort of error with one of the country.xml and unlimitedpilots.xml files we just replaced.

If the game still fails to start, then the next step would be to place my unlimitedpilots.xml file from my application data folder into your application data folder and see if the game starts. If it does start then do you now see the pilot model in the aircraft when flying?

If you do see the pilot model, then at least we know you had a corrupted file, that just leaves the problem of working out why your system wont build its own unlimitedpilots.xml file.

what operating system are you using, and had you been able to play the game with no issues in the past or has this been an issue for you since installation?

regards Rob.

Reply to Troubleshooting ?'s

Capt. Winters,
Sorry about the confusion or misdiagnosis of my problem.

Yes, if I delete the unlimitedpilotsfile.xml from my Appdata folder, the game will not start.

When I do fly, I do not have a visible pilot in the cockpit.

Game still flies all missions fine.

Will PM you my e-mail and await new instructions.

Regards,

Ohiotrooper
