B-1B three-engined takeoff

A long time ago, a 9BS B-1B 86-0133 'Old Crow Express', formerly known as 'Memphis Belle', had a problem with a PTO shaft and set down in theatre after declaring an emergency. It was a class 'A' incident.

The decision was made to get the aircraft out of danger ASAP, so some fast engineering was in order. After temp repairs were made, the aircraft departed on three engines. This isn't the first time that's happened, but it is the first time it's happened in the era of modern video. It's no big deal, but I thought some of you would be interested to see how it went down. As KIAS climbed, more and more thrust was brought on line from the #1 engine. For the most part, it's actually a 2-engined takeoff.

The Bone has taken a lot of heat over the years in terms of reliability etc., but has finally hit it's stride.

I was deployed to one garden spot that had a Bone drop in unannounced. I was curious as to whether or not this was that incident. But in looking at this video, it wasn't.

It's so wierd to me to have people post pictures of airplanes, and see my friends' names written on them. It's even wierder to see evidence of work I've done, such as parts that had to come from another jet and are a slightly different color, or sealant I applied. What a time warp.

Here's the nose art I painted a year and a half ago:
