Evening all..John here...Was wondering if i could get a few recommendations on a GOOD B-24 for FS9..Also(i guess this turned into a couple) i've seen a few commercials for i think "World at War" and it shows a clip of a bare metal B-24 from above, the lt. wing just inboard of #2 ENG bursts into flames, then the wing folds upwards...any ideas which one it is??...Thanks John

The freeware Alphasim Liberators are what I fly.....D and J models in one package (I like the D better...something about that solid nose in lieu of a turret). I have seen screen shots of the newer payware Liberator by Alphasim......but have no hands on experience with it/them...have no idea what all comes in the package or the price of the package.

I did some repaints for the freeware Libs...mainly the D model....some time back...not sure if the download link in the Warbirds Archive is still good or not.

Found the commercial for World at War online...looked and looked at that segment of the Lib with the collapsing wing. I am not sure what model it is...but it has a turret in the nose. H model at the earliest I think...based on profiles on Wings Pallete....possibly a J model.

I just did some testing of the freeware Alpha Libs...the J model comes with a bare metal (reflective) skin...the D comes with a very dull pinkish desert sand paint with minimal specular shine. I took the reflective J skin, renamed it to work on the D model (for the most part) and the D model also has full reflective texturing coded into the model. Yippeee!

This is what the AlphaSim FS9 payware version looks like. The freeware version was used to help fill out the formation shots.

Only information that I have on the film clip of the B-24 going down was that the wing failure was caused by a bomb from a bomber above it falling through the wing.

I have the payware version also, comes for FSX and FS9, layered Paint Kits available for both sims.

I did several repaints, one being a commemorative B-24J flown by Ranson Frederick, an uncle of one of my clasmates in High School. he was killed during a night training mission over the UK. he stayed at the controls until his crew could bail out. the plane was "Lily Marlene" and I used a b & w, did a perspective tramsform for a template and had at it. This is the FS9 repaint, the FSX is unreal good with the bump and spec textures.

i recently bought the Aircraft Power Pack from Halycon.de which are former Wings of power, now A2A Sim aircraft because of the B-29 included. Even not latest technology i like the package very much in terms of FDE, sound and appearance. Have a look or give me note if you need screens. There is the B-24J, B-24J and PBY4Y-2.

Following Caz's paints , there are many more , It is without a dout the best 24 out there , it may be a little hi in price but you get the main variants and for both sim,s .. in MP's i mix it with the A2A 17 for a little fun , course im talking FSX but you a 24 lover , you will like it .

I bought the A2A bomber pack a few months before AlphaSim came out with their B-24. I have both and honestly I couldn't say which one is best; they're both first rate. My only complaint about the AlphaSim model is, compared to A2A's it's awfully 'fat' looking, fatter than photos I've seen. I would have to say A2A's is mora accurate looking. I don't think you will go wrong with either one.
