B-25: Spot the difference

no worries Dean, your track record so far is immaculate, so I WILL be buying your B-25 (and DC-3) the moment you release them, and I hope to produce a few nice repaints for them as well, that is if you don't mind..
You just make them the way you want to make them, that is more than fine by me.

Jankees, of course... I wouldn't wish it any other way.

The whole point is to enjoy the aircraft, take-off and fly with your buddies and most importantly to think to yourself, damn that was fun.. looking forward to the next sesh. Others have alternative ways of having fun be it painting or modding aircraft.

So long as what ever you do is enjoyable, your a long time dead. Personally I'd like to get to a point in my life and think damn I've had a blast and wouldn't swap it for the world.

Sorry mods, if this reply causes you to much work then by all means delete it, it gets a little tiring when some poeple are always searching for that Holy Grail

*Disclaimer - this is not a rant :)

No worries Dean. :) Got it covered :)
Pam

Huub,

will you be releasing this? If not, could you post a link? I used to fly the RCS B-25 regularly and this has rekindled my interest:jump:

Cheers,
Sascha

Sascha,

When you want to have it PM me you e-mail address and I will send it to you. As the changes are minor I had not planned to upload this repaint.

Cheers,
Huub

COMPARING THE MAAM AND RCS B-25s

Jan,

There is quite a history to the split between the MAAM team and Roy. I have no idea what caused Roy to quit the MAAM team, but some of the posted stuff I have seen dating back to around 2003 or 2004 was very acrimonious.

I know that Roy was very anti 'photo-realistic' textures and that was a major area of conflict.

Anyway, for us the punters, we have two B-25s for FS 2004, one a payware for a good cause and the other freeware.

For my part, I like the cockpit (2D and VC) of MAAM's version, but I actually prefer the overall look of Roy,s latest version of this a/c. It somehow looks a cleaner and sharper model.

I always tart-up my a/c with A2A's lights and use the old smoke file from WOP's original issues. Not much to choose between the sound files for these two a/c.

Keep both of them in flying order as they both have their plus and minus points. The models are so similar that you can even use MAAM's air file and aircraft cfg (with some mods) on Roy's model and vice versa.

Like them both.

Hehe, just what I always thought. Surely MAAM / Roy wouldn't want to hear this, but a synthesis of these two aircraft models would have been a blast.

Dean:
Sorry to hear about the problems with nit picking and ranting people on aircraft in development. I always appreciated developers to be willing to discuss or show their work in progress. On one side, the advice of knowledgeable people could be of help for the developer too, but if this turns into mud slinging contests I understand that you feel that its better to resign from that.
Unfortunatly, the result is that the behaviour of a few leads to a loss on all sides. Sad.

When the DC-3 and B-25 comes out, I surely will get them!

Cheers,
Mark

TWO CENTS

I have always enjoyed tooling around in the RCB version...I do not have the MAAM version, but trust every ones opinions on what is different or better. The big twin has always held a special place in my heart....as a very young boy, one of my friends family owned a B-25 don't know what variant, It was supposedly the one the father flew in the pacific during WWII....I remember it had a great nude on the fuselage, was mostly silver with olive on top...sounded great, flew great, was hard as hell to wash and polish...The father was a captain for Capital airlines during the 50s and 60s...he owned several aircraft including an AT6 and the 25....I remember him as being able to do almost anything in an aircraft... he landed the B25 behind his fathers house to change a prop or something...the field he landed in was not 1000 feet deep or 300 feet wide...I was watching from my fathers yard and thought the plane crashed....by the time I got up the hill on my bike..they were shutting down the engines and opening up the hatches....That is when I met the boy that became my good friend..I was lucky enough to be allowed to climb all over this aircraft, inside and out....Pretty heady stuff for a ten year old.

LC,
you are right about one for sure, she is a BIG twin. I just had the opportunity to stand next to this beauty at Cavanagh Flight museum and was struck by how big the B-25 really is.

Yep, feels big when you're on the outside...damn cramped on the inside. I was a "Small" ten year old without flight gear of any kind and I had trouble crawling into forward green house. Very tight fit in rear observation window(between) twin tails...Although I was fairly tall I was amazed at how little forward view there was over the instrument panel. Anyone that flew these into combat must have had "HUGE" glands....so to speak. But when those big twins were up and running...WOW, the noise and vibration still gives me a thrill fifty years on. That is a really good looking example you're next to....

Just a short, slightly off topic addition to this thread: For those looking for some killer B-25 sounds, go to the Warbirds Archive, do a search for Lawdog3260 (I'm not sure on the numbers) and grab his latest B-25 sound package. That sound pack ROCKS!

Lawdog2360, but it's not a particularly accurate sound set. Starter sound is from a B-25, but the other sounds are from a P&W R-2800. The Startup sound is actually from a Convair.

Awwwwww, Jan you won't even let us old dogs have a little nostalgia.....sorry to have gotten off topic....:icon_lol:

ol'jarhead :salute:

I prefer the 'olive drab' on this livery instead of the 'olive drab' on the MAAM B-25. Which is far too greenish in my opinion (please notice the word opinion!).Cheers,Huub
I have to agree with your opinion that the MAAM bird's OD green is TOO green, and the Neutral Gray underside, to me, look too dark, and too blue. Anyone know of a GOOD B-25 early version around? Something without the aft turret that could be used to make reasonable representations of the Doolittle Raiders?

Repainting and color matching

First and foremost, I am not an expert by any means, I do not design aircraft but just adding what I do when repainting. I have the FS595 for matching when doing repainting of U.S. naval and military aircraft. I have also a number of aircraft color guides which I frequently reference. When I did repaints of the B-17s for the 91st BG(V) I also was able to get online reprints of many real markings and color references which colors also applied to B-25s, B26s and B24s of WWII period. Finally I use RGB color references in Photoshop when repainting. Like all creations we do the best we can within the programs we use and the flight sims they are used on and then when all is said and done as Deano said: fly it; enjoy it and don't criticize it. If I ever had an issue with a payware product, I ALWAYS sent an email or Private Message not a ranting post. In every instance they were satisfactorily addressed. Freeware products should be received with the utmost gratitude to the designer(s). Like the MJ C-47 team for example. I can't think of anyone who models or creates anything who ever set out saying to themself "I'm going to just do a mediocre job and get it done as quickly as I can", do you?

Reminds me of food critics who don't know the first thing about cooking LOL. My 2-cents; tuppence or zwei pfennig wherever you are reading this.
