Bainbridge Air Base, Retro 1960..

rdaniell

SOH-CM-2013
I'm just beginning a new project. The project is Bainbridge Air Base, Bainbridge, Georgia, as it looked back in 1960. My father was an aircraft mechanic there from 1952 until the base closed in 1962.

When it closed, there were T-34As, T-28As, and T-37s being used. I can do a fair to middling job on the scenery objects but, I'm looking for someone who would like to help with the AI aspect of the project.

Anybody reading this and would like to team up with me, please give send me a p.m.

Here's a WIP of the control tower. I have to admit this thing has kicked my butt:isadizzy: all day.

Chief, I'm thinking "Bainbridge" could also include the Navy basic training center at Bainbridge, Maryland that, I think, was founded in WWII.

I working on Bainbridge Air Base, Bainbridge, Georgia. It's been around since right after WWII as a pilot training base. My wife's father was stationed there in the Army Air Corps. It was closed shortly after WWII ended. It was re-activated for pilot training during the Korean Conflict and continued training pilots until 1962. When it was re-activated, it was a contract flying school. Southern Airways had the training contract.

It was sold to Decatur County, Georgia, and is now used as the local airport.

My home town is only about 18 miles up U.S. 27 from there.
