Basic Commands

I've done a search looking for the basics as in the commands to shut down engines and just about anything. Not ever having played CFS3, (only CFS1 and others) I am having a bit of a struggle with the basic commands. I have found the keyboard commands for warp (which doesn't work) maps in cockpit (doesn't work) but others that I have found to "work" The "A' key for attack...NO...the "R"key for rejoin,. NO...and etc. Right now, I would be happy to find out how to end my mission in the campaign without crashing into a building. That is the only way I can stop it and then it is saved. Also... is there is way to "save"? We all know that most software now days comes without a decent manual (in most cases you are lucky to get a pdf file) and wondering if there will beone in Phase 3. Other than a few minor instances..I have having a great amount of enjoyment. Appreciate any help from this "FSX'er" that you can give. :isadizzy:

Check-out the STICKY OFF Tips & Cheats, should find everything you need, and a few you don't :ernae:

Commands

Yes, I saw that but still can't get the engine to shut off, nor can i advance to the next waypoint.. I especially believe that feature to be nice if I can get it to work. I will keep trying and thanks.

Esc: exit campaign/mission. No need to crash into buildings ;)
Shift + M (3 times): kills magnetos, stops engine.
Shift + W: Next waypoint.

Warp or ( X ) requires 123 mph@ 1000 Feet since WWI aircraft don't fly that fast, there's a bit of a trick to it. If you don't mind my saying, " if it had teeth, you'd be bleeding " It's all in those tips, the information is freely given, so the newbies don't need to ask 34 questions

But some wish to cherrypick, then stumble around in the Dark

Engine Kill = Idle Mixture Cutoff

Old Habits Die Hard

The 3 times retarding the magneto's, are indeed the preferred method to stop a modern engine, equiped with a fuel pump.

However these engines utilized No Fuel Pump. Instead there was a pilot pressurized fuel tank( via a bicycle air pump) that meant your propeller wasn't turning, but you continued supplying fuel to a red hot engine

Don't sound very safe to me !

Only problem, with Idle Mixture Cutoff, is it requires 3 Key Stokes, but after it's customized to a single Key Stroke in control options

Hey whatever makes your boat float, and you're fond of fires :costumes:

Thanks

Thanks for your help so far, I may be a newbie, but when I mentioned the engine would not shut off, nor would the Shift + W work, I had read the tips, over and over. So I do appreciate knowing about the warp on a world war 1 vs 2 aircraft. I had never flown CFS3 , the last flight sim I flew was Lead Pursuit and Falcon 4.0 plus a little of BOB. SO, I appreciate, but whether we are 25 0r 65, we are all newbies at one point. Thanks for your patience. This is a great sim, too bad the planes don't fly half of the way some of the bi planes fly in FSX or FS9... I probably am speaking like the devil for some but all the same, there isn't much realism to the aircraft handling characteristics. Just my opinion

Yeah, I'm betting this should be pretty difficult for me as well. I bought a copy of MS CFS 3, it should be here soon. The problem is I'm an Aces High veteran of several years, so what I'll be working on is trying to make things function on similar keys and joy stick buttons. I have ZERO experience with MS CFS 3.

As to the Lack of proper Handleing Characteristics, Different Opinions make the world rotate, however you'll be in the minority. The majority consists of Actual Pilots ,commercial, private, and military. along with the occasional ultra-light thrown in :kilroy:

Dane48,
If the planes don't fly right, and the keyboard commands aren't working, I suspect that OFF did not install correctly. Try reinstalling and trying again. Make sure to follow the uninstall and install directions to the letter. Also, what are your machine specs? Good luck!

Or you have some other program that is also using some of those hot keys combinations running in the background.

Press ESC when in flight and go to options you can get to your controls/keyboard settings from there and see what you have set, maybe choose some others. Do a search for CFS3 keyboard controls on google sure there are a few documents out there, or read the manual with your game...
