BASLER TURB-PROP DAK BY MANDRED JAHN

vonernsk

SOH-CM-2022
Have been communicating with Manfred regarding his excellent C-47s and he mentioned that he is aiming to release a 'Basler' Dak (turbo-prop engined) around about Xmas or thereabouts. Great news as the only two versions available at present are payware.

He is initially producing an FSX version with a FS9 version to (hopefully) follow. He stated that his biggest show-stopper with the FS9 version would be getting FS9 XML turbo-prop gauges. Perhaps he could get some assistance from Milton's team working on the Turbo-prop version of the Grumman Trader?

He has a thread on his project at Cal Classics.

This is great news from the "Jahn".

Although the Grumman panel and gauges are in the works, the S2T's will be last out and neither will be available by the end of the year, unfortunately.

Whenever we get these done, I am certain there would be no problem sharing with Manfred.

I will check out his project thread there. Thanks

I know the quality of Manfred's models deserve gauges of equal quality....but a "quick fix" would be to use some existing turbo prop gauges from other freeware packages.....I know I have a number of twin engine turbo prop planes that have full compliments of gauges. Heck, Premeire Aircraft Design has a number of twin engine turbo prop planes on their site....and I'm sure that they would have no problems with Manfred using their gauges in his Basler if he asked. Then when better quality gauges are available, they could be introduced as a patch or upgrade package.

One problem with that approach might be how Manfred usually builds the VC and it's gauges.
He does it all within Gmax, which makes it near impossible to swap gauges after the fact. At least as I understand it.
I think Milton typically builds his models with a flat pane where the gauges can then be placed at any time during the build process or even after it is all finished.

I don't know enough about those finer things of Gmax to say which is better. I also do not know if Manfred has a specific reason why he chose to do it this way or if a conversation between Sir Milton and Sir Jahn might be helpful there.

Cheers
Stefan

Too bad if he's modeling his gauges. The default King Air gauges would be a good fit.

Again I do not want to speak for the Master. I was part of Manfred's team on the Connies but had nothing at all to do with the C-47 and it's new turbo version of it.
From his posts over at CC he has used the KA gauges initially but has since switched to the ones from the Caravan.
Personally I had hoped for a flat pane approach so that I could have used other gauges I already have on my system from different pay ware aircraft that use the same PT-6 engines.

Cheers

Hi there,

Yes as Stefan says we have gone off using the Kingair gauges and the flat plane freely configurable VC panel. But with a possible FS9 version in mind I'll stick with 1024 textures (sizewise) and I am glad to hear that Milton and others might be willing to share the occasional FS9 gauge or two. I did try the 2D approach because I thought everybody could then DIY his or her own but it just did not look right.

Here is a piccie showing our non-jerky turboprop engine start using a 2D popup (can be unsqueezed), to be replicated in the VC itself. Coupled with a good sound file such as Sonicsolution's (payware, not too expensive) she is like Spooky from another planet. While many think spoiling the classic lines of a Skytrain is an abomination (used to think so myself) she has a habit of insinuating herself. And there are plenty of interesting routes and missions to be flown.

BTW on pop demand I will also do a FS9 long-nosed C-47 w/o skis. Some nice repaints of the FSX version are out already over at Flightsim.

oooh I have been looking at it for some time, and furrowing my brows...but first things first.

Great news, looking forward to the Basler and the long nose radial without ski's. would it be poss to stick a few arials onto the long nose too make a EC 47 ?

Steve

Thanks for this idea, Steve - EC-47s were, I am told, flown in both Army and USAF markings over South VietNam, and at least one was lost there (USAF) over the Ho Chi Minh Trail on ELINT.

It looks really SWEET, Manfred... both versions. I never knew there was a "Turbo-Gooney". Looking forward to flying her.

Thanks for your continued interest in FS9, and all of your excellent models.:salute:

BTW - C-47 Long-Nose is already up on Flightsim.com for us FS9ers to download this morning....
That TurboDak looks amazing - I never knew it could look so good!

Well based on the precedent set with the Connies I hope that the Super DC3 and possibly even the three engined version will be considered.

Cheers

I'll second johndetrick's suggestion of a R4D-8/C-117 version, at Manfred's convenience. :) Back 40-some years ago just about every NAS or MCAS on the face of the earth had had one or more assigned as station hacks and sometimes as VIP transport.

Add me to the fan club. Too long neglected it is.

Hmmm, I sound like the little green chap with the pointy ears.
