Yep, I'll agree with that. The Beach Boys held the flag high during the British invasion.

On the other hand, I really liked Chad & Jeremy's "Summer Song" from about the same year also. Those were great days for the old AM radio. Oh... and Andy was quite the crooner, eh?

In all due respect to you guys,....your choices fall a wee short of the mark. Now,...NOW,....here's the one song sung by the Jamies in 1958 that will recapture those summers of long ago. Sit back,....relax,....turn up the volume and listen to 'Sum sum summertime.'

Oh my, that brings back some memories! I was nine years old and in Hawaii with my parents on our bi-annual "home leave" trip from Tehran, Iran back to CONUS when that song came out on the radio. I liked it so much that I recorded it on my brand-new "portable reel-to-reel" tape recorder my folks had just bought for me when we passed through Tokyo. I remember wearing out two sets of batteries just playing that song over and over. :icon_lol:

Some more AM radio summertime tunes.

Jagd,.....wow,....Eddie Cochran,...one of the early rockers along with Bill Haley, Chuck Berry,... et al. Yes,...one would listen to the AM radio to pick up the latest rock n' roll songs from his favorite station. Back in the 50's and 60's in Chicago it was either WJJD or WLS. And no one can forget disk jockey Dick Biondi,..."The Wild I-tralian." He was fired 23 times. A real screamer who still does guest appearances to this day. Other DJ's were Clark Weber, Larry Lujack, and John Landecker. Yep,...those were the days,...enjoying the DJ's as well as the music they spun.

These two songs always come to mind when Summer starts:

Summer In The City - The Lovin' Spoonful (the playback's kinda loud, so adjust the player Volume down)

<iframe src="//www.youtube.com/embed/s1_8909dNJ0?rel=0" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" width="480"></iframe>

Weekend - Wet Willie (I know... a little 'disco-y', but it brings back memories of Summer during High School...)

<iframe src="//www.youtube.com/embed/r31lFhUMBxc?rel=0" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" width="480"></iframe>

I find it so interesting that many of the memories I have can be tied to a song or two, whether it be from the radio, a movie or TV soundtrack... it's just the power that music has in our lives.

Both excellent choices Viper Pilot!

Not the absolute best music from the soulful and exciting Wet Willie (I think Jimmy Hall is what Mick Jagger wishes he could be) but we all relate to that "Weekend" feeling.

Summer in the City was high on the charts in '66 when I was hanging around in PC (Randy knows where that is) with the lifeguards from Ed's Beach Service. A girl friend with a job at the Colonel Dixie, half a tank of gas in my Chevy Yeoman, and all the shrimp I could eat for $4.99. Summer doesn't get any better than that.

Ah, Key West, Vin! The only lively place in the Cemetery State! LOL! I almost remember being there!! The Full Moon Saloon, The Half Shell Raw Bar, Sloppy Joe's, Captain Tony's. Fun 24 hours a day. Enjoy, my friend!!!! Hoist one or three for me!

Great shot there Vin,
Have a margarita on me:salute:

Here is another version of Summertime, done by Booker T and the MG's. Steve Cropper's guitar work is just soooo smooth....beautiful.

At the beach, might be good time to listen some good ol bawdy sea shanties, like this 'clean song' by the great Oscar Brand :icon_lol:
