[FONT=&quot]Apparently a bear attacked the pilot's plane while parked in a remote field up in Alaska . He had not cleaned out the inside after a long fishing trip and the bear smelled it.

He had 2 new tires, 3 cases of Duct Tape and several rolls of cellophane delivered. Then he went about repairing the plane so he could fly it home, which he did.[/FONT]

If the damage was only done to the fabric and not too the control wires or structure of the aircraft I guess it would be possible to temporarily fix it that way.. I guess it beats being stuck there with a hungry bear!

USN/USMC version of duct tape is ordnance tape, pretty much same stuff except olive drab color and maybe a stronger adhesive. Nicknamed "400-knot tape", good for securing access panels on jets when you don't have time to replace worn-out fasteners. Although I'm sure no airdale types here have ever resorted to such extreme measures to get an up aircraft for the flight schedule...

In the racing world, they call Duct Tape 'Racing Tape'.. (You can order it pre-colored to your race cars colors). Its still duct tape.

You should always run it in the direction of the wind though. I see on that plane that he ran it cross ways around the fuselage instead of longitudinally. Bad as the wind eventually lifts the edges that are facing the wind, so if you have strips running long ways in the wind, its less area facing it and thus it stays longer. In the end, the wind wins the fight against DT. But there are ways to make it last longer..

Good enough for a temp repair on a slow plane. That tape will stay on long enough.

Wow, what a total mess the bear made of the plane!! Even the tires were not left alone as well!! Correction: it wasn't total, apparently the flying control surfaces were left alone!

Wow, what an indigenious repair job!! Duct tape...LOL!! What a story that guy will tell for years to come!
