Belgium this time....

Belgium had 12 Avro 626 models in service between 1935-40. Numbered A-1 to A-12, these were at the pilot school at Wevelgem.
As we don't yet have a 626 variant (until Nigel shows up again) ;this will have to do for now.

A-1 was the only one to be painted in this scheme ; and A-4 is known to have crashed in Tours,France in 1940; presumably after it (along with others) were handed off to the french at outbreak of WW2

So continuing the story of the Belgian Avro's.... we know some were gifted to France at outbreak of WW2 ; so a "what if" they happened to be in the other half of France in 1942 , used by Marshal Petains forces .....

Although it sounds quite logical Pete, but when I look what happened to the Dutch aircraft, which escaped to France, I don't expect the Belgian AVROs would be used by the French.
Nevertheless a nice colourful repaint

Yes, been reading up on the history. However, they did have Tiger Moths in use in Vichy France, so why not an Avro, its not like they were able to go and buy more machines 'off the shelf". In this instance its more probably in use as a general hack or utility duties machine, rather than training new aircrew.

Which would fit with pilot training being carried out in North Africa... have to do a bit more digging.

First one is definitely a bit of a "what-if" scheme ; the USAAC in England did have at least one Tiger Moth they er, acquired ,
for use as a station 'hack' ; so why not an Avro?

And this one, was a 626 variant , not a lot known about its history, may have been one of the Belgian machines pressed into service ,
whatever, a) we don't yet have a 626 (until Nigel pops up again) and b) seems to be wearing non-standard unit codes / designators according to this list http://www.rlm.at/cont/archiv02_e.htm or here http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/LRG/markings.html

It could be a militarised version of a civil registration D-VBTI
