Bell 206

euroastar350

SOH-CM-2023
Work in progress, about 80% complete. FSX native Bell 206 originally designed for FS2004 by Owen Hewitt, FSX conversion by me. No release set and not soon either:wiggle:

Nice to see a 206 with floats :)

One question though: was it possible to extend the default 206 instead of upgrading a 2004 model ? I ask this because some default planes were modified like this:
- the default DC-3 was extended to several versions, and called "Awesome 4 some"
- the default Comet from FS9 was converted to native FSX
- the default Jenny was converted to native FSX

So *if* the default 206 were editable as well, it would be an easier base for you, wouldn't it ?

The DC-3 and Jenny were different in that the source files were available for them. The Comet was converted by using a tricky method of converting the MDL file into a 3ds file. The animations were lost, but the mapping stayed. We could do this with the default 206, but the animations would have to be redone, and not everyone is a fan of seeing default aircraft modified in such a way and rereleased. We're converting Owen's 206 to FSX because he gave us the source files for it. And it already has animations and doesn't need much to convert it to FSX. It may not be as high poly as the default FSX 206, but the shape is much more accurate. In the future, we plan to either making a scratch built 206, or add to Owen's mesh and take it further. It would be cool to extend the default 206, but it's debatable as to whether or not that would be "right."

sure wish we could get a 427 or maybe a new 429?

As Brandon mentioned, we have Owen's 206 as a base for future models....no need to rehash a default aircraft mesh to add additional models unless microsoft themselves would release the source files which is highly not possible:guinness:

Great to see this being upgraded to FSX. Well done. Keep up the good work.

Will it have bump maps, VC self-shadowing and VC reflective glass??? In the case of VC glass it would be great to use very high resolution textures, so that subtle scratches and bits of dirt could be added for amazing realism.

You bet it will have FSX features and materials:applause:

"We could do this with the default 206"

No, you could not. The other meshes were made available by Microsoft. Unless they did that again with the 206 any modifications would be in violation of the EULA.

Well the models have grown from 5 to 12 models now...and they are in the paintshop as I type this. More info and shots soon.

PS...Robert (N2056) check your PM

The base model is pretty much done. The only things left to do on it are fix the landing lights (directional issue) and get the sliding window vent animation codes converted from FS9 to FSX, which must be done by hand in XML. Other than that, this is what the model will look like. After this variant is done, all the others (low skid, news, floats, etc) will be done and the paint schemes added.

That looks fantastic! I loved Owen's Jetrangers in FS9, and this conversion will be just that much better. Thanks in advance! :wavey:

Repaint kit already on Hovercontrol and Avsim, Owen released it when he released his 206 for FS9....and older repaints will work with the FSX models, just got to convert to DDS and add the matching spec maps. I am adding the texture sheet for the floats, low skid gear and remapped wire cutters.

Hi guys,

Sorry of the lack of updates. It's been a busy last few weeks for us. On top of that, the guy that was going to do all 16 liveries had a computer crash, so now we have to take on that challenge, plus finish off all of the model variants. OY!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

Until we can get some more updates out, here is a screenshot of the first livery we've done...an official ERS paint scheme.
