Bell 222 Redux

euroastar350

SOH-CM-2023
Some of you may have remembered the freeware Bell 222 released early this, which was recieved with very little fanfare. Well for the last month or so, I've been secretly been working on the Version 2 of this model and all I can say is it will be ten times better as the original. This project will be the first helicopter I make with 3D gauges and so far everything is working out smoothly with the new panel in place ready for cut and artwork (see screenshot).

I already have a volunteer to paint the bird as soon as I have a base model completed and she (Firekitten) is very excited to see this project come to fruitation and ready to sling some paint on this chopper:cool:

For the basepack, I am going to include the 222A, 222B with wheeled gear and 222UT with skid gear. Expansions are to follow with various equipment layouts including medevac, police, VIP, etc. I will eventually do the entire series including the 230 and 430 models and there is a MAYBE of an Airwolf model as well.

exterior mapping is the same as the original, except the interior which is getting remapped/retextured, 3D lights will be added (also a first in my projects), different avionics including the original Collins Proline radios and much more. Don't expect this one soon as I have lots left to do including painting the interior.

Here is a sample shot of what the bird looks like after I rebuilt the vertical fins and new tail rotor. Next up is the new rotor system:jump:

Very cool to see another model of the 222.....
It will help with my daughters flying the bird......

Airwolf model please! Chopper looks great, sorry I missed version one. I watched an episode of Airwolf the other day and I got a bean up my butt to fly her in FSX.. I have the Cera Bell-222, but that wasn't enough, always had hoped they would do an Airwolf Model to go along with the payware package but no.. Tried the Project Airwolf X (its okay) and even the Payware AFS-Designs FSX Airwolf (didn't care for it at all), need a native FSX Airwolf..

If I do create the Airwolf version, I will stick to a standard civil Bell 222 VC as there isn't enough photos/materials of the actual interior, it's the best I can do and for free ;)

I wouldn't ask for anything more! I prefer the standard panel, probably a little more realistic in appearance to the original Airwolf anyways..

I am sorry that your 222 had less fanfare than wanted, but, please keep going with your project. I have a local 222 that I can't figure out yet. I think it is a local businessman that owns it. It is driving me crazy trying to figure out where it is flying from because it is not flying from an airport. AND it is totally stark white with no flowing paint scheme.

But really, I would dearly love to see more 222 based helos. The 222 is my favorite civilian helo hands down. Sounds like a Cobra when it flies by. Dad flew Cobra's, so I am biased, plus I grew up on Airwolf, plus the 222 is a hell of a nice shape for a helicopter.

If I find that elusive copter in my area, I will be happy to snag some pics of it.
Just don't forget that we little people that have no idea how to code or design FS planes really appreciate what you do.

i wish there was a Bell 429 on the net somewhere ( ok ok i mean for FSX...:dizzy:)

but im looking forward to this release very much.

An update to the Bell 222:

Has spinning rotors now. The coning blades are a work in progress and will change.

Rachael Whiteford (firekitten) has graciously in helping out by painting the interior. She has the current model and textures in hand, I'll just let her do her magic:applause:

Next up, more virtual cockpit work, coding, doing the 3D gauges....fun:biggrin-new::wavey:

Fantastic looking chopper there mate! The 222 is certainly still one of the most beautiful looking whirlybirds around. I don't think any other helicopter could have portrayed Airwolf so well. I shudder to think what chopper would be used if Hollywood decides to do an Airwolf movie remake, apart from using the same 222.

Cheers
