Bell 412 out

There is an excellant 412 at hovercontrol.com under the fs9 aircraft downloads section. It works great in fsx with acceleration. The rotor blades dissapear in the clouds and trees but other than that this bird is payware quality. Just a HU

For some reason, the 412 is super-fast, unlike its real-life counterpart. I have to fly it at a throttle setting somewhere just above idle, lest it get up to 375kts or more, and when I want to land, it wants to "glide" for the longest. I have had this problem on 2 different computers. I tried to increase frontal drag, add flaps, reduced the power scalar, nothing seems to help. I mentioned this at the Hovercontrol forum, didn't get any help there. Anyone have any other ideas that I might try?...:isadizzy:

I found the same thing, way to floaty and almost impossible to make an approach to land as it won't sink, doesn't feel like there's any weight to it, the slightest throttle and it lifts off. Watching these things on a daily basis, they don't leave the ground easily :kilroy:

I retired from corporate helicopter operation where we leased two 412's. I can only wish that they had that kind of performance. IIRC, cruise was something like 130 kts. Our birds were configured for offshore operations, float system, life rafts, cargo pads, etc. so they were a bit heavier than the standard 412.

I know what you mean, I've been to Vne and back, not a comfortable experience as it tries to beat its way through the air.

The model is beautiful, very accurate, and I am sure it runs properly on most computers, but I am "lucky" enough to have two computers that insist on running the 412 at mach .5. I will keep it in hopes that someone comes up with a fix for us misfits, lol...:ernae:

You ain't the only one, same here. Hard to do a Landing approach without a few 180's to slow the beast down. Otherwise a great port.

I was very happy to see this bird worked in FSX. Then I some repaints done up in my jobs colors and boy I love this bird. Only thing is the 400 Knots cruising speed. I flew in the NYPD version many moons ago and wish she was this fast then. Could have gotten to jobs faster. I took some shots but not going to double post so here's the link to the thread http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=14096

Just what is it that makes it fly faster on some computers ? ...anyone got any ideas at all ? ....I've been fooling with this thing since it was first released with no success...:isadizzy:

I haven't downloaded it yet ... I just mailed my FSX computer home. (I'm leaving Iraq soon! Yay!)

I do have the FSX tweaked Hovercontrol Personal Edition and the Japan Coast Guard 412, and they both fly what I assume to be realistically. You could try swapping .air and .cfg files from one of these.

I had both of those models, which is the same basic model as the one we are discussing. Same air file, same problem, but I did try the .airfile from another helicopter with great results, but use of those files in another model is prohibited by the author, so...:monkies: If you didn't have a problem with the models you downloaded, I would think you'd have no problems with this one. Have a safe trip home...:ernae:

I added this to the FUEL section in the config

[fuel]
//Tanks Position and capacity:
//Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)
Center1 = 0.00, 0.00, -2.00, 325.7, 4.80
//Fuel type: 1 = Avgas, 2 = JetA
fuel_type=2
number_of_tank_selectors = 1
Center1 = -2.3, 0, -4, 360, 10 ///////
LeftMain = 0.0,-6, 4, 230, 20 ///////
RightMain = 0.0, 6, 4, 230, 20 //////
electric_pump=1

And used air ed program to tweak the AIR file. open up air file and go down to section 1501 (engine turbine) change "thrust- static SL Ref(lb) from 158.000000 to 58.000000.

then when you fire up FSX go to "Fuel and payload" add 500 lbs to pass area and add 500 lbs to rear cargo.The new fuel tanks will be full. This is a fast tweak but the helo flies heavy and I cant get it over 150 knots.

See what you think

OK, After some tweaking I found that adding this to the already existing station loads it flies heavier (if thats possible)

station_load.0="190, 6.0, 1.17, 0.0, Pilot"
station_load.1="190, 6.0, -1.17, 0.0, Co-Pilot"
station_load.2="400, 0.0, 0.00, -0.2, PassengerArea"
station_load.3="400, 0.0, 0.00, 0.0, RearCargo"
station_load.4="175, 0.0, 25.00, 4.0, Hoist"
station_load.5="50, 0.0, 0.00, -2.0, ExtCargo-Hook"

I added 400 lbs to station load 2 and 3 and 175 lbs to station load 4 and 50 lbs to station load 5. I also changed the way the side to side motion was and added to the following, low_realism_stability_scale.

[Helicopter]
low_realism_stability_scale= 0.85, 0.90, 1.35 //.50, .40, .80

cruising speed at about 75 % throttle is about 125 knots and seems to slow down alot quicker.

Hope this helps, works for me but I am no modeler just an avid fan.
