Best DP Gun Range For AI ?

AER_DaddyO

SOH-CM-2025
Hello All,

Can someone please enlighten me as to what the best DP file Gun Range setting is for AI aircraft? I seem to have WWI AI aircraft buzzing around each other at great length, with very little shooting going on. Various
settings in the 400-600 range show no real improvement. Lol... they don't seem to have any problems shooting at me, just at each other. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Like all the other CFS programs, CFS2 is a "player-centered" sim, meaning you ARE the primary focus of AI opposition when you enter a fight. Its just a design feature to make the sims more engaging for the player. If they can get even the slightest solution on you, they will pull the trigger. As for how the AI opponents deal with each other, its not so much in the dp as it is in their flight modeling. They are having difficulty getting clean solutions on each other in all the maneuvering. If you increase the pitch, roll and rudder effectiveness in the aircraft.cfg's by a half a point (0.50), you will see some improvement in the combat performance between them. But this will also enhance the frequency and effectiveness at which AI opponents target you as well. The best remedy for that is to simply out-fly them...:icon_lol:

The best remedy for that is to simply out-fly them...

Therein lies my PROBLEMO!

I can take on any foe in KM's trusty P-40E. I can take on any foe in AW's-P-51D, VB's P-51B/C, most Corsairs and all Spitfires. But put me in a P-38, any P-38, and I am a no-go at this station. I can even hold my own in a Wildcat, but that Lightning is a widow maker in my hands.

Simple solution.Give your P 38 a Spitfire airfile.I know its cheating but hey,It works.

Devildog73,
Have you tried David Copley's P38-F ,G & H models.
They have enough power to boom & zoom and never fail if you stay in the vertical.:gameon:

I think I have his somewhere. I will give them a shot and see if my wife becomes a widow yet again at the hands of some rookie Japanese AI pilot.

305 meters (1000ft) was the Max. range for Naval Aviation Gunnery during WWII.

So the range is the 305, 183, 274, 305 numbers three commas before the 1d1 asterist?

Also, 18.4 damage rating for a .50 cal is about 1.6 low in most information I have read on the damage inflicted by them on enemy aircraft. Those big, heavy ole 50s were almost as good as 20mm from everything I have read about them. Two or three bursts at the base of an enemy wing and a tracer through a fuel tank and down goes the weazel.
